Rose Fukumitsu

Rose “Loke” “Darling” Hulihee Fukumitsu, 79, of Lanihau died Dec. 9, 2015, at her residence. Born Sept. 20, 1936, in North Kona, she was a cashier at Matsuyama Food Mart, secretary at Hilo Soda Works, a salesclerk at the former Kona Inn Gift Lanai, coffee farmer, dispatcher for Tamashiro Trucking, secretary for Kona Hawaiian’s Pop Warner Football League. She was a member of American Business Women’s Association Konalani Chapter, Kuakahela Ohana, St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Keopu Citizen’s Club, volunteer agent for voting precincts, and a Marine Corp veteran.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Jan. 8 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona for a 3 p.m. Mass. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery for a funeral service and burial. A luncheon will follow at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at Honokohau Boat Harbor. The family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by husband, Kazuo Fukumitsu of Lanihau; sons, Alden (Cheryl) Fukumitsu of Kaupulehu, Winstanley (Lisa) Fukumitsu of Waimea, Elmer (Lisa) Fukumitsu and Travis Fukumitsu, both of Lanihau; daughters, Christine Pajimola and Shaunte Fukumitsu, both of Lanihau, Shalei Fukumitsu of Kailua-Kona; sister, Josephine Alapai of Milolii; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Matthias Shepherd

Matthias Shepherd, 64, of Hilo died Dec. 23, 2015, at home. Born July 29, 1951, in Hilo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Brewer Chemical; an Army veteran and member of 3 Days 3 Nights study hall.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 6 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again at 9 a.m. Jan. 7 at the mortuary for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Rose Shepherd of Hilo; sons, Cyrus Ua, Caylan (Trena) Ua, both of Hilo, Cameron (Melinda) Ua of North Carolina; daughter, Aven (Kaleo Cusick) Shepherd of Hilo; brothers, Noah Shepherd of Kona, Christian Originel, David (Lorena) Ua, Calavin (Janet) Crum Sr., all of Hilo; sisters, Hope (Tommy Garcia) Kealoha, Hauoli (Seth) Freeman, both of Hilo; 12 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
