Donald Brandt

Donald “Buddy” Howard Brandt, 88, of Hilo died Dec. 18, 2015, at his home. Born Jan. 5, 1927, in Hilo, he was a retired finance comptroller for Hilo Coast Processing Co., and worked for Wailuku Sugar Co., Olokele Sugar Co., Hilo Sugar Co. and HELCO, and was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Young Men’s Institute Francis Council No. 573 and was a former member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 6 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Entombment follows at Homelani Memorial Park Mausoleum. Family requests casual attire be worn and in lieu of monetary gifts or flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of Hilo, Alzheimer’s Association, or American Cancer Society.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Brandt of Hilo; son, Dean Brandt of Volcano; daughters, Lori Brandt of Hilo, Joan (Michael McManus) Brandt of Agoura Hills, Calif.; sister, Dorothy Smith of Kailua, Oahu; two grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret Ahuna

Service times for Margaret Ahuna have changed. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. Mass. A celebration of her life will follow at noon at the Hamakua Country Club in Honokaa.

Joseph Chang Sr.

Joseph Chang, Sr. 89, of Kapaau died Dec. 21, 2015, at the Kohala Hospital. Born April 10, 1926, in Kohala, he was a supervisor in the maintenance department of the Kohala schools and libraries, a cattle rancher and an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 54-3666 Akoni Pule Highway in Kapaau for a service.

He is survived by wife, Martha Chang of Kapaau; sons, Leslie Chang of Haiku, Maui, Joseph Change Jr., of Mount Vernon, Wash.; daughter, Jocelyn Chang of Makawao, Maui; sister, Leina (Ernest) Begley of Bismark, N.D.; one grandchild; numerous nieces, and nephews.

Rosaline Almazan

Rosaline Pabro Almazan, 75, of Keaau died Dec. 3, 2015. Born in Hilo, she worked as an LPN for the Life Care Center of Hilo and retired as a factory worker from Maunaloa Mac Nut.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 10 at Keaau Community Center for a celebration of life.

She is survived by sons, Jesse (Michele) Almazan of Hilo, Chris Almazan of Arkansas, Nathan (Donnie) Almazan of Maui; daughters, Lita (Douglas) Woodall of Arkansas, Desiree Almazan-Bolos of Keaau; brother, Antonio (Evelyn) Pabro of Keaau; sisters Annalysa Pabro, Maria Pabro, both of Keaau, Cindy (Tyson) Watarida of Hilo, Toni (Kaili) Smith of Washington; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Evelyn Miyashiro

Evelyn Matsue Miyashiro, 94, of Hilo died Dec. 28, 2015, in Hilo. Born Aug. 6, 1921, in Waianae, Oahu, she was the co-founder and retired proprietress of the Cafe 100 Restaurant in Hilo, member of the Kinoole Baptist Church and Hui Okinawa Club.

Friends may call at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers or monetary offerings.

She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Raymond) Kobayashi, Kay (Wayne) Shintani, Gail Miyashiro, all of Hilo; sisters, Dorothy Terukina of Honolulu, Helen (Farrington) Blaisdell of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Tomoe Iida

Tomoe Iida, 97, of Hilo died Dec. 18, 2015, at her residence. Born in Puueopaku, she was a retired cook for K’s Drive-In, Olaa Steakhouse, worked at Orchids of Hawaii and was a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and its Buddhist Women’s Association and Project Dana.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

She is survived by daughters, Doris (Ray) Koshi, Vivian (Gerald) Ueyama, Sandra (Gregg) Silva, all of Hilo, Charlene (Tony) Abad of Honolulu,; son, Calvin Iida of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Carse

Dorothy Mae Carse, 97, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 12, 2015, at Life Care Center of Kona.

Born Oct. 26, 1918, in San Antonio, Texas, she was a retired department of education psychological tester, member of HGEA and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by sons, David (Cherrie) Carse of Waimea, Charles (Florence) Carse of Kunia, Oahu, and John Carse of Kalapana; sister, Peggy Sue Bolieu of the mainland; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Harry Hayselden

Harry Hayselden, 79, of Naalehu died Dec. 16, 2015, at the Life Care Center of Hilo.

Born in Waiohinu, he was a retired groundskeeper at the former Discovery Harbour Golf Course and worked for Ishimaru Service and Makida Construction.

Private services were held.

He is survived by sister, Margaret Kaikuana Lee Hong of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sueko Arakaki

Sueko Arakaki, 93, of Keaau, died Dec. 2, 2015, at a care home in Hilo. Born Dec. 17, 1921, in Olaa, she was a homemaker and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sister, Katsuko (George) Matsuo of Wailuku, Maui; numerous nieces and nephews.
