Thomas Pegues

Thomas Ray Pegues, 57, of Hilo died Jan. 6, 2016. Born Dec. 16, 1958, in Mississippi, he worked as a welder for Waipahu Welding.

Friends may call at noon Jan. 16 at Puhi Bay Beach Park for a potluck. Condolences may be posted at ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

He is survived by sons, Thomas Pegues Jr. of Honolulu, Tavon Pegues of Hilo; two grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins.

Gertrude Takayama

Gertrude “Trudy” M. Takayama, 66, of Hilo died Dec. 15, 2015. Born in Punaluu,she was a retired master stylist with the former Liberty House, and member of the United Community Church.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 16 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

She is survived by daughter, Tia (Wayne Cordero Sr.) Leorin of Hilo; sons, Warren Leorin of Kona, Chad Leorin of San Diego; brothers, Fred Hoohuli of Puna, Roger Delos Santos of Louisiana; sisters, Joanne Cuison of Puna, Janice Sears of Oahu, Sandy McLuckie of Colorado, Collette Paglinawan of Hilo Edith Kaluau of Kona; hanai mother, Lei Ouye of Hilo; one grandson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Phyllis LaForge

Phyllis Jean LaForge, 76, of Laupahoehoe died Dec. 31, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Malden, Mo., she was a retired nursing administrator at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich., member of the Hilo United Methodist Church and its Peanut Butter Ministry, Mobile Health Care and helped the elderly with their taxes via the AARP.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 16 at Hilo United Methodist Church for a 10 a.m. celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn. Additional services will take place in Michigan at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Mark LaForge of Suzuka, Japan, Greg (Sheri) LaForge of Plainwell, Mich.; two grandchildren.
