Charles Van Del

Charles “Van” Van Del, 85, of Kona died Jan. 12, 2016, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born Dec. 13, 1930, in Nebraska, he was an interior designer for Koehnen’s Interiors, and served as a Navy nurse in Korea during the Korean War.

A private celebration of his life will be held on Jan. 31 in Kona. Info: Kim Greenwell, 329-2915.

He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Andres Quanan

Andres “Andy” Quanan, 69, of Waimea died Jan. 11, 2016, at his residence. Born June 12, 1946, in Kealakekua, he was a landscaper for Hualalai Resort Hana Hana Crew, formerly a land surveyor foreman for W.H. Greenwell Ranch Koa Mill, a construction worker and a small engine repair mechanic for General Appliance.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Feb. 13 at OTEC Beach for a celebration of life. A service begins at 11. Family requests casual attire be worn. Info: 333-5581.

He is survived by sons, Julian Rivera, III, Kekoa (Luana) Quanan, both of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Pili (Kalehua) Perry, Andylian (Keoki) Suzuki, both of Kailua Kona; sisters, Loni Celeres, Kathy Mahoney, both of Kealakekua, Connie Caldwell of Kailua-Kona; hanai sons, Wayne (Wanita) Leslie, Ian (Marsha) Kalili, Mark (Joanie) Ysaguirre, Iwa (Kapua) Kalua, Lima Kiel, all of Kealakekua, Shane Michalec, Aliikai (Eli) Fujihara, Tommy (Tammy) Gouveia, Banyan Hanato, all of Kailua-Kona, Mike Angeleo of California, Chucky (Rayette) Fujihara of Renton, Wash.; hanai daughters, Veena (Damien) Mills, Malia (Ivan) Louis, Helen Manila, all of Kailua-Kona; 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Midori Ushiroda

Midori Ushiroda, 88, Kealakekua died Jan. 10, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 22, 1927, in Kealakekua, she was a retired beautician and owner of Kealakekua Beauty Salon and member of Lifewater Church, formerly known as Central Kona Union Church.

Services were held. The family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by son, Randall Ushiroda of Kalaoa; daughters, Raelene (Russel) Young of Oregon City, Ore.,Lori (Craig) Hamasaki of Aiea, Oahu; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
