Felipa Lato

Felipa “Fely” Susanna Lato, 80, of Hilo died Jan. 3, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, former self-employed macadamia nut harvester and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 9 a.m. Jan. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, ValerieSue Carron, Claudia Lato, Doreen (August Aina) Lato, all of Hilo, JaniceFay Villanueva, Lorri (Derek) Lum, both of Honolulu, Charlene (Richard) Villanueva of Oceanside, Calif.; sons, BillyDale (Tara) Lato, Nelson (Kainoa) Lato, both of Hilo; sister, Enobiba (Solomon) Kaholoaa of Hilo; 32 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mikiko Meyer

Mikiko “Miki” Helen Meyer, 87, of Mountain View, formerly of Wahiawa, passed away on Jan. 8, 2016, at her residence. She was born in Sendai, Japan on Feb. 14, 1928. She was a retired bartendress at Dot’s Restaurant in Wahiawa.

Private services will be held. She is survived by son, Jimmy Meyer of Wahiawa; daughter, Mary Hernandez of Honolulu; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Jean Kawachi

Jean Yuriko Kawachi, 85, of Hilo, died at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center Jan. 8, 2016. She was born in Pahala and was a retired sales clerk with Ben Franklin Stores.

Private family services were held. The family requests that donations may be made to the Aloha Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, in memory of the Late Mrs. Kawachi.

She is survived by her sons, Keith Kawachi of Hilo, and Kirk Kawachi of Pahoa; daughters, Karin (Robin) Takahashi of Hilo, and Katrine (Brandon) Konanui of Keaau; sister, Sueko Kaneshiro of Hilo; sister-in-law, Terue Sumida of Hilo; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

S. Ray Fornof

S. Ray “Doc” Fornof, 87, of Pepeekeo, died on Jan. 4, 2016, at his home. Born April 26, 1928, in Pittsburgh, he was a sales representative for Nordskog Industries and Grainger Industrial Supply, U.S. Marine Corp World War II veteran, member of the Iwo Jima USMC Memorial Association, UH Hilo Athletic Hall of Fame, volunteer for the UHH Athletic Department, and a past president and member of the Vulcan Booster Club.

No services.

He is survived by son, Keith Fornof of Santa Ana, Calif.; daughter, Pamela Burger Fornof of Portland, Ore.; and two other children; brother, Richard Leigh “Dic” Fornof of Northridge, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ruth Nkasone

Mrs. Ruth Ann Nakasone, age 91, of Kapaau, Kohala, died Jan. 7, 2016, at her residence. She was born in Monticello, Iowa, on Oct. 23, 1924, and was retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Education as a business teacher at Kohala High School.

Private services held. No flowers. No koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by husband, Yoshimi Nakasone of Kapaau, Kohala; numerous relatives in Iowa and Minnesota.

Cyrin J. Raymond

Cyrin J. Raymond, 36, of Kealakekua, was born in Kohala on May 23, 1979, and died on Jan. 13, 2016.

He is survived by son Kamahemeha Raymond of Hilo; daughter Iwalani Raymond of Hilo; brothers Moses (Brandi) Raymond of Waikoloa; Charleston Raymond of Kailua-Kona; Charles (Jen-nai) Raymond of Kailua-Kona; and sister Lurline Raymond of Mexico.

Private services will be held.
