Violet Higa

Violet Harue Higa, 85, of Honolulu died Jan. 22, 2016, at the North Hawaii Community Hospital . Born Aug. 11, 1930, in Honolulu, she was a retail clerk until retirement.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 12 at Ballard Family Moanalua Mortuary in Honolulu for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu. Condolences may be posted at ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

She is survived by daughters, Wendy (Pete) Jones of Waimea, Jodie (Jack) Pacleb of Hilo, Beverly (James Kvapil) Higa of Long Beach, Calif.; stepson, Creighton Higa of Honolulu; sisters, Margaret (Donald) Quon of Costa Mesa, Calif., Doris (Mac) McAmis of Whittier, Calif., Katherine (George) Mahelona of Henderson, Nev., Nancy (Raymond) Boyle of Republic, Wash.; brothers, Theodore Ajimine of Kahaluu, Andre (Lois) Ajimine of Waikoloa; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Kurokawa

Kenneth Kikuo Kurokawa, 73, of Kula, Maui, died Feb. 6, 2016, at Islands Hospice in Kahului, Maui. Born on Jan. 23, 1943, in Paauilo, he retired as president of Austin, Tsutsumi and Associates Inc.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 20 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului with a 6:30 p.m. service. Family requests in lieu of flowers, monetary donations be made to Islands Hospice at 149 Maa St., Kahului, HI 96732. A private inurnment is planned at National Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl at a later date. Condolences may be posted at ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

He is survived by wife, Beverly Kurokawa; brother, Reginald Kurokawa of Pukalani, Maui; sisters, Geraldine (Harold) Kraynek of Lake Forest, Calif., Jacqueline (Chuck) Probst of Kula, Maui; Nadine (Gary) Demaree of Waimea.

Richard Timberlake

Richard “Ri” Marshall Timberlake, 84, of Pahoa died Jan. 17, 2016, at The Queens Medical Center. Born April 26, 1931, in California, he retired as an artist.

He is survived by sons, Mei (Margaux) Timberlake of Pahoa, Krishan (Heidi) Timberlake of California; daughter, Mai (Kaleo) Timberlake of Kealakekua; sister, Pat Crittenden of California; one grandson.

Rebecca Pouliot

Rebecca “Becca” Jo Pouliot, 68, of Keaau died Jan. 24, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 21, 1947, in St. Paul, Minn., she was a retired seafarer.

She is survived by daughter, Regina (Stuart) Joblin.

Eiko Sakuma

Eiko Tamaki Sakuma, 84, of Mountain View died Jan. 31, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 23, 1931, in Taiwan, she was a retired housekeeper for The Queens Medical Center.

She is survived by sisters, June Bennett, Michiyo Kakazu, both of Mountain View; brothers, Hitoshi (Fumiko) Tamaki of Kagawa, Japan, Yogi Tamaki of Saitama, Japan; nieces.

Kichiro Sumida

Kichiro Sumida, 86, of Hilo, died Dec. 25, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born March 29, 1929, in Hilo, he was a retired frozen food manager for the former Sumida Enterprise and a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by brothers, Calvin (June) Sumida of Los Angeles, Masayuki Sumida of Hilo; sisters, Emiko (Fumio) Maedo of Hilo, Mieko Waldorf of Chicago; numerous nieces and nephews.

James Tabor, II

James “Kimo” Hamilton Tabor, II, 74, of Waimea, Hawaii, died Feb. 3, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1941 in Honolulu, he was a retired accountant and management consultant, and an Army veteran.

Private service to be held.

He is survived by sons, Joshua Tabor of Wellington, New Zealand, Britton (Kelly) Tabor of Gastonia, North Carolina; daughter, Sloane (Len) Perroots of San Jose, Calif.; sister, Lisa (Jake Emery) Davis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Imanaka

Thomas “Chicken” Takeshi Imanaka, 97, of Hilo died Jan. 3, 2016, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Nov. 29, 1918, in Hilo, he was the proprietor of Office Things Inc. and a member of Heritage Christian Fellowship Church and various golf clubs.

Private services were held. Family requests no koden and flowers.

He is survived by son, James Imanaka of Hilo; daughter, Susan Segawa of Hilo; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ralph Nabeta

Ralph H. Nabeta, 84, of Los Angeles and formerly of Hilo died on Jan. 19, 2016, in Los Angeles. Born in Hilo, he was a retired IBM employee and U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by wife, Mildred Nabeta of Los Angeles; sons, Randall Nabeta, Wayne Nabeta, both of Los Angeles; sister, Nora Nabeta of Hilo; twp nieces and a nephew.

Thomas Rosenberg

Thomas “Tom” Michael Rosenberg, 78, of Waimea and of Honolulu, died Jan. 29, 2016, at his Waimea residence. Born April 14, 1937, in Vancouver, Canada, he was a retired attorney.

He is survived by hanai daughter, Chris Kaler of Colorado; and other relatives on the mainland.
