The public is invited to join staff in celebrating the Kailua-Kona Public Library’s 24th birthday on Feb. 27. The library officials turns 24 on Feb. 28.

The “Jungle Anniversary” will feature free programs all day long. From 9:30-10 a.m., the Kealakehe High School band will perform in the courtyard and from 10:30 a.m. to noon, lauhala weaving for ages 12 and above will be offered. After the lunch hour, there will be a chalk-the-walk decorating event from 1-2 p.m. and from 2-3 p.m. author Clear Englebert will discuss “Feng Shui for Love and Money.”

Closing out the day, from 3-4 p.m, will be a seed planting for ages 8 and up, and from 4:30-5 p.m., attendees can take part in a “Tarzan Yell Competition.” Winners receive $10 gift cards for Jamba Juice (preschoolers to age 15) and Starbucks (16 and older).

There’s also the chance to win a $25 movie theater gift card by guessing how many bar-coded items (excluding magazines, newspapers and honorback books) the library contained as of Jan. 31.
