Landlord Summit is Wednesday

The West Hawaii Landlord Summit will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Wednesday at the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay Kaleiopapa Convention Center, Keauhou II.

The Landlord Summit is a first step in addressing housing options for homeless or financially challenged people. Summit attendees will receive information on renting to low-income people, housing placement program details and client management. Three landlords will be honored. Lunch will be provided at no charge.

Seating is limited. Register by calling Divine at the Office of Housing and Community Development at 959-4642.

Korean War Veterans Association meets

The Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 meets at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kona Vet Center, 73-4876 Kamanu St. in the Kaloko Industrial area on the second floor in Suite 207. There is an elevator for those that need one. The building is almost directly across from Home Depot.

Membership is open to any person who has seen honorable service in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard if said service was within Korea including territorial waters and airspace at any time Sept. 3, 1945 to the present, or outside of Korea June 25, 1950, to Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Kona Kohala chefs offer culinary scholarships

The ACF Kona Kohala Chefs Association is offering Discovery Culinary Scholarships to prospective culinary students hoping to attend Hawaii Community College — Palamanui.

Geared to students who have never enrolled in the culinary program, the scholarships are for $1,000 each. Eligibility criteria include a transcript showing the candidate has maintained a 2.5 or better GPA, a list of community culinary related involvement, a 500-word essay, two letters of recommendation and a completed scholarship application form.

Forms can be downloaded at konakohalachefs.org. Anyone needing help to apply for the scholarship can contact Chef Patti, 895-1967.

Daughters of Hawaii meeting planned

The Daughters of Hawaii and Calabash Cousins will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday on the lawn of the Hulihee Palace. Information of upcoming events and activities will be discussed. Members birthdays this month will be celebrated. Music and refreshments are planned. Guests and potential members are invited. Men and women may be members.

Dances of universal peace set

Dances of universal peace are planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at New Thought Center in Kealakekua. The event is free.

Attendees will move in the moment while singing sacred phrases and poetry of a myriad of spiritual traditions.
