Esperanza Bautista

Esperanza Ortiz Bautista, 83, of Pepeekeo died Feb. 27, 2016, at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born March 23, 1932, in Balaoan, La Union, Philippines, she was a field worker for a nursery member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. March 7 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. March 8 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou for a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed. Burial at Alae Cemetery.

She is survived by daughter, Miriam (John) Rivera of Union City, Calif.; three grandchildren.

Albert Watanabe

Albert Tadashi Watanabe, 74, of Hilo died Feb. 18, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a salesperson with Big Island Toyota/DeLuz Chevrolet and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. March 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Friends may also call at 4 p.m. March 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. paryer service, followed by cremation. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. March 11 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for an urn committal service. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived wife, Marylina Watanabe of Hilo, sons, Henry Watanabe of Hilo, Allan Watanabe, Eric Watanabe, both of Pahoa; stepsons, Christian Rey (Mitzi) Escobar of Hilo, Eduardo Jr. (Judith) Escobar, Honney (Joann) Escobar, both of the Philippines; daughter, Donna (Jared) Eckersley of Hilo; stepdaughters, Deneen (Nathan) Ongais Louie, Glory Ann (Joseph) de la Cruz, Marife (Jae) Pascua, all of Hilo, Renee (Clarence Jr.) Ongais-Salvador of Mountain View, Rosanne Ongais of Oceanside, Calif., Daisy (Melvin Jr.) Ongais-Kilaulani of Keaau, Joy (Mauricio) Ferrer, Edelyn (Alvin) Camat, both of the Philippines, Mhardee (Joseph) Timbol of Alaska; brother, Leslie (Verna) Watanabe of Honolulu, sister, Jean (Donald) Hee of Kaneohe, Oahu; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and cousins.

James Reis Jr.

James Vasco De Reis Jr., 65, of Hilo died Feb. 23, 2016, at home. Born April 30, 1950, in Hilo, he retired as an automotive mechanic.

Shizue Akiyama

Shizue “Shi” Akiyama, 94, of Honolulu died Feb. 12, 2016, at Hale Ola Kino on Oahu. Born in Hilo, she was a retired court clerk for the Third Circuit Court in Hilo, member of the Church of the Holy Cross and Komohana Central Kumiai.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. March 11 at the Church of the Holy Cross in Hilo for a 9:30 a.m. service. Casual attire. Family requests no flowers and monetary gifts.

She is survived by son, Alvin (Karen) Akiyama of Honolulu; daughter, Ruth (Mark) Yamakawa of Honolulu; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilfred Freitas Jr.

Wilfred “Willy” Freitas, Jr., 57, of Honaunau died Feb. 23, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 18, 1958, in Kealalekua he was a butcher at Food Farm at Mauna Lani and a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. March 11 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau for a wake service. Visitation will continue at 8 a.m. March 12 at the church with a 10 service and an 11 a.m. Mass. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests casual attire. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Pam Freitas of Holualoa; son, Kaeo (Shelley) Freitas of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Alyssia (Keone) Kealoha of Kailua-Kona, Chas (Kainoa Chai) Freitas of Holualoa; brothers, Kalani (Gaynelle) Freitas of Kailua-Kona, Michael (Karen) Freitas of Honaunau, Kawika (Bernadette) Freitas of Sunnyside, Maui; sisters, Kaui Freitas of Captain Cook, Noe Freitas of Middle Keei, Joby Crichton of Hilo, Kehaulani (David Henriques) Freitas of Captain Cook; seven grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edmond Moke Young, Sr., 86, formerly of Kaneohe, Oahu, died Feb. 11, 2016, at the Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Waipio Valley, he was a retired salesperson, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Friends may call at at 10:30 p.m. March 11 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), Honolulu for an urn committal. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
