KAILUA-KONA — Donald Trump added Hawaii to his slate of wins following Tuesday evening’s Republican presidential caucus.

Turnout was up 28 percent for Hawaii County, where Trump took 48 percent of the 1,978 votes, winning 10 delegates to the Republican National Convention. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz followed with 28 percent of the total, or six delegates. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio had 12 percent of the vote and Ohio Gov. John Kasich had 11.5 percent.

Another 24 ballots were cast for Ben Carson and Jeb Bush, who appeared on the ticket but had dropped out of the race.

Statewide, Trump took 42.4 percent of the 13,377 total, and Cruz had 33 percent, followed by Rubio with 13 percent and Kasich with 11 percent.

Statewide turnout was up 23.5 percent for the caucus, with many voters crediting Trump for energizing the GOP.
