VFW schedule correction
Incorrect dates for events at VFW Post 12122 were published because of information provided to the newspaper.
The Activities Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Pasta with salad and dessert will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. April 8 for $5.
The Korean War Veterans meet at 10 a.m. April 9. Following that meeting, the VFW will elect 2016-17 officers.

Senior ID cards issued
The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older Monday through Friday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center.
Cards will also be issued from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona KMart, from 9 to 11 a.m. April 11 at St. Jude’s Church in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, from 9 to 11 a.m. April 11 at Kohala Coordinated Services for the Elderly, from 9 to 11 a.m. April 12 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 at the Kailua-Kona Walmart, from 1 to 3 p.m. April 25 at Honokaa Hale Hauoli Senior Center and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27 at West Hawaii Civic Center.

Kealakehe Elementary council seeks nominations
Kealakehe Elementary School Community Council is accepting nominations for the community and parent components for the school year 2016-17. Representatives are asked to serve for two years. The council reviews the school’s academic and financial plans to ensure students’ needs are met, provide opportunity for discussion on school improvement, participate in evaluation of the principal and submit requests for waivers.
The council meets monthly in the conference room. Deadline for nominations is 4:30 p.m. April 22.

Recycle Hawaii announcers Earth Day activities
Recycle Hawaii will celebrate Earth Month in April with activities to promote resource awareness and to encourage recycling and sustainable practices.
Registration is open for the 11th annual Art and Science of Recycling program where K-12 students create art or functional forms with reusable and recyclable materials. Science, technology, engineering and math connections are encouraged in the process of collecting, experimenting and working with various paper, plastic and metal materials. Student projects are displayed during April. Projects will be listed for Environmental Education Week April 17-23
Home composting workshops will be held from 10 a.m to noon April 23 in Kailua-Kona and May 21 in Waimea. The classes teach the basics of composting, reducing waste and creating soil. Workshop instructors will also discuss ways to compost using different methods. Workshops are free, but donations are appreciated. Advance registration is required on first-come, first-serve basis.

Dryland native plant workshop planned
Lehua Lopez and the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust will hold a native dryland plant workshop from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Church’s Queen Emma Center, 81-1004 Konawaena School Road.
Lopez will share about medicinal and cultural uses of the native plants and a horticulturist will sell native plants.
Water and snacks will be provided. There will be no hiking with this talk story.
