Kona hospital auxiliary meeting date correction

The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary meets at 12:30 p.m. April 18 in the hospital conference room. An incorrect date for the meeting was printed because of information provided to the newspaper.

National Library Week celebrated with programs

In celebration of National Library Week April 10-16, Hawaii’s public libraries will offer free programs throughout the month.

Featured performers include:

Storyteller Jeeva Raghunath, a renowned storyteller from India, will share stories featuring a musical donkey, clever wives, tricksters, and silly stories enhanced with music, rhythm and dance. Her interactive storytelling style highlights India’s culture, tradition, customs and food. The event is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Kealakekua Public Library, 323-7585.

Storyteller Dr. Margaret Read MacDonald, a Washington state children’s book author and folklorist will share lively folktales from around the world. She will be at North Kohala Public Library, 889-6655 at 10 a.m. April 27 and at Kailua-Kona Public Library, 327-4327, at 3 p.m. April 27.

Grammy and Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning slack key guitarist Jeff Peterson will share his passion for the guitar in words and music at 2 p.m. on Friday at Naalehu Public Library, 939-2442.

Storyteller Janice “Auntie Jan” Morimoto will present humorous folktales, poetry, and participatory games from around the world adapted to “local” style. This is planned at 5:30 p.m. April 25 at Honokaa Public Library, 775-8881 and at 1:30 p.m. April 27 at Thelma Parker Memorial Public and School Library, 887-6067.

Programs are suitable for ages 5 and older unless noted otherwise, and young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Contact the hosting library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

Broadcast journalism scholarship offered

Radio personality, “Billy V,” aka William Van Osdol of BVO Enterprises LLC, has announced a new broadcast journalism scholarship at his alma mater, Konawaena High School. His goal is to offer the $500 scholarship to a graduating senior as a way for them to get a start in the industry that he loves.
