COOK takes guests around the world in 80-minute concert

Guest conductor Bernaldo Evangelista leads the 30-plus-member Chamber Orchestra of Kona as it performs famous classical music from around the world in an 80-minute concert featuring solos by Ursula Vietze, Kelley A. Miles and others.

The show is scheduled 4 p.m. Sunday in the convention center at Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay. General admission is $10, preferred seating is $15, and admission is free for those age 17 and younger. Doors open at 3:30.

Evangelista was the founding director of the Kona Chamber Orchestra and the Kona One Hour Chorus, and has sung with the orchestra in years past. He has been a soloist for the Honolulu Symphony Chorus, University of Hawaii at Hilo Chorus and Kona Choral Society.

Evangelista recently returned to Kona after living and working in North Carolina for many years. He directs the Kealakehe Intermediate School Band. teaches drama and Japanese language, and is the ASL instructor at the school.

Vietze is the concert master of Chamber Orchestra Of Kona, Kamuela Philharmonic, Kona Choral Society Orchestra and manager and founder of Magic Strings.

She studied at the Conservatory of Music in Frankfurt, Germany, and played with many different orchestras in Germany and the U.S. She’s been a member of the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Johann Strauss Orchestra in Germany and played with the Honolulu Symphony, Maui Symphony and Maui Pops.

Vietze performed a Mozart violin concerto and Symphony Espagnole by Lalo with the Chamber Orchestra Of Kona last year and has plans to perform future solos with Chamber Orchestra of Kona this year.
