KAILUA-KONA — Another weekend passed with no new cases of dengue fever confirmed on Hawaii Island.

No new cases of the mosquito-borne virus have been confirmed here since March 23, according to the state Department of Health. The total case counts remains at 263 since the start of the outbreak in September 2015.

The last onset of illness was March 17 and none of the cases are considered potentially infectious to mosquitoes, health officials said Monday.

Of the 263 cases, 237 are Hawaii Island residents and 26 are visitors. Forty-six have been children younger than age 18, according to the state.

Health officials noted that 1,597 reported potential cases have been excluded based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.

In an effort to reduce mosquito breeding areas around homes and businesses, the county is extending its weekend transfer station hours for April. All transfer stations will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through the end of the month. Normal transfer station hours will resume during the work week.

In addition, the county Department of Environmental Management will be conduct two additional Household Hazardous Waste collections: Saturday, April 23, at the Kailua-Kona Transfer Station, and Saturday, April 30, at the Hilo Transfer Station
