THE Mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities Meeting meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the ADRC Training Room, 1055 Kinoole St., Hilo.

Networking event coming up
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce invites the public to its monthly networking event, AfterHours, which takes place from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.
The event is hosted by Access Information Protected, 73-4164 Hulikoa Drive in the Kohanaiki Industrial Area of Kailua-Kona. The pau hana networking event affords attendees the chance to link with other businesses, network with members, meet new members and exchange business cards.
Pupu and refreshments will be served. Attendees may bring three boxes for complimentary shredding and are encouraged to donate to The Food Basket by bringing in canned goods at the event.
Cost is $30, or $15 for chamber members and first-time nonmembers.

Hawaii Energy offers free energy saving kits
Hawaii Energy is two energy-saving kits to electric utility ratepayers of Hawaii, Honolulu and Maui counties. To order a kit, go to Hawaiienergy.com/kits. Allow 4-6 weeks for shipping. Choose from one of two kits (limit one of either kit per ratepayer)
Valued at $42, the Water and Energy Saver Kit can help households save up to $127 in electricity costs or 575 kilowatt hours per year. It includes two 10-watt A19 LED bulbs (60-watt equivalents), one low-flow showerhead with massage and pause features, two low flow faucet aerators, one toilet tank displacement bag and two leak detection dye tabs.
The Negawatt Kit is available to plug-in Electric Vehicle owners to help offset the electricity used to charge EVs at home. The kit is valued at $64 and can save up to $150 in electricity costs or 679 kilowatt hours per year. The kit includes two 10-watt A19 LED bulbs (60-watt equivalent), one low flow showerhead with massage and pause features, two low-flow faucet aerators and one advanced power strip with seven outlets (which prevents electronics from drawing power when turned off or not in use). Although EVs vary, it is estimated that 8 kWh of charge is required for every 25 miles driven. This kit can help offset approximately 2,122 miles worth of charge.
Medicare presentation planned
The public is invited to a free informational presentation titled “Medicare Basics, the ABCs of Medicare.” The talk is given by Kona volunteers for Senior Medicare Patrol, in partnership with Regency at Hualalai.
Attendees will learn how to protect themselves and loved ones from medical ID theft, fraud and scams and understand the basics of Medicare and Advantage Plans. They will also find out how to read medical statements and check for errors and suspicious billing and report questionable charges, possible scams, fraud or abuse.
The presentation is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road.

West Hawaii grads earn degrees
Four West Hawaii students recently graduated from Pacific University in Oregon.
Kayla Davidson of Kailua-Kona earned a master’s degree in teaching, Jaymie Komo of Kailua-Kona earned a bachelor’s degree in integrated media, Anuhea Wall of Kealakekua earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Carli Yamamoto of Kealakekua earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science.
