Margaret Kala Takehiro

Margaret Kala Takehiro, 90, of Hilo died March 25, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 29, 1925, in Waipio Valley, she was a retired Hawaii State Department of Health home health aide and both a family genealogist and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. April 23 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hilo Stake Center, 1373 Kilauea Avenue for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Alae Cemetery Mormon Section. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, William (Carolyn) Marshall of Riverside, Calif., Paul Takehiro of Hilo; daughters, Barbaralene Kaya, Cheryl Tomimatsu, both of Oahu, Kimberleen Takehiro of Puna; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Janette Moon

Janette “Jan” May Moon, 86, of Hilo died April 13, 2016, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born June 15, 1929, in New Concord, Ohio, she was a silk artist, author, illustrator, conservation activist, and charter member of the Sierra Club Moku Loa Group.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. April 24 at Wailoa State Park Pavilion No.2 for a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Sarah Moon of Hilo, Ruth Moon of Eureka, Calif.; sister, Caroline Leeper of Bellville, Ill.; four grandchildren.

Paki Myers

Paki Myers, 72, of Ocean View died March 8, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital in Kealakekua. Born Dec. 18, 1943 in New York, N.Y., she was a physician and had her own private practice.

Dennis Sin

Dennis Lehua Sin, 70, of Hilo died April 9, 2016, at home. Born Jan. 4, 1946, in Kohala, he was retired as an SGT from the Hawaii Army National Guard.

He is survived by wife, Polly Ann Sin of Hilo; son, Micah Sin of Hilo; daughters, Kimberlee Sin, Marisa Sin, both of Hilo, Denise Freitas of Waimea; sisters, Michelle (Albert) Amaral of Kailua-Kona, Lila Nalani Kualii of Oahu; 16 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edna Riveira

Edna Keahilani Riveira, 59, of Hawi died March 2, 2016. Born Dec. 5, 1956, in Kaneohe, Oahu, she worked as an assistant manager at the DFS Galleria in the King’s Shops.

Virginia Ochmann

Virginia (Bebe) Luces Ochmann died Feb. 27, 2016, in a nursing home is Savannah, Ga. She was Born in Manila, Philippines.

Max Souza

Max Arthur Souza, 79, of Kailua-Kona, died March 5, 2016, at his residence. Born June 15, 1936, in Honolulu, he was a retired cable splicer for Hawaiian Telephone Co., member of DAV Kona Chapter 7 and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was also involved in the forest restoration projects at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery.

Naoto Oye

Naoto “Pee Wee” Oye, 93, of Hilo died March 25, 216, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Honolulu, he was a former customer service representative for the former Pan-American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, sales manager for Hawaiian Papaya, member of Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission, Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Miyo Oye of Hilo; daughters, Naomi Oye of St. Helena, Calif., Amy (Glenn) Miyao of Hilo; brother, Thomas (Suzie) Oye of Honolulu; sisters, Ritsuko Takemoto of Honolulu, May Tamura of Honolulu; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

M. Everett McCrary III

M. Everett McCrary III, 67, of Pahoa died April 9, 2016, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Wilmington, N.C., he was a commercial fisherman.

Private services are being held on the Big Island and in North Carolina. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Hilo, Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility, UNC-W Center for Marine Science or a cause of your choice.

He is survived by daughter, Rachael McCrary of Los Angeles; sister, Anne Sullivan of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two nephews, four grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Cansio Acol

Cansio Acol, 85, of Kealakekua died April 15, 2016, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Wahiawa, Oahu, he was a retired manager for Realty Finance, member of the Lions Club in Kona and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Friends may call from 8–10 a.m. April 23 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Holualoa for a 10 a.m. Mass. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Acol of Kealakekua; sons, Patrick Acol of Seattle, Jeffrey (Jessica) Acol of Napels, Fla., Steven (Luana) Macomber of Kailua-Kona, Edwin D. Carl Richards

Carl “Ed” Edward Richards, of Hilo died April 12, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born June 20, 1945, in Wahiawa, Oahu, he was a retired firefighter for the Hilo Airport Crash Crew and a member of the International Association of Firefighters.

A celebration of life will take place at noon April 23 at Puhi Bay, Hilo. Family requests casual attire.
