Don’t blast Pidgin column
A writer who berated Wally Camp’s column as “racist” for the illustration of the word “pake” is another example of the less people know of other cultures, the more they find fault with it. Such condemnatory statements are misplaced.
Remember how these same critics tried to have us believe the word “haole” was a very, very bad word and shouldn’t be used? Anne Medve’s letter (WHT April 21) was right on when she said Wally’s columns on Pidgin are a delight. They are! There’s a saying: take away the language and you take away a culture. Keep it coming, Wally!

Stall tactics ridiculous
In response to John Burnett’s piece on the challenge to the TMT hearing redo, this is getting ridiculous and needs to stop. The Supreme Court ordered the BLNR to hold a second contested hearing and that is what they are trying to do.
But knowing full well that based on facts and not fiction that process would again lead to approval, opponents have set out to drive TMT into looking elsewhere by never allowing the case to move forward.
Support of a STEM educational program is not grounds for blocking appointment of a hearings officer! What’s next? Ruling a candidate out because they don’t dance hula or speak Hawaiian? Over 70 percent of responses to the Star Advertiser Big Q question selected, “just stalling the process, no validity to this issue.” It is clear what is going on and for the sake of our keiki’s education and the future of Hawaii, it needs to stop!

Moorings just don’t add up
I have been holding off commenting on the issue of moorings in Keauhou Harbor, but cannot any longer. Regardless of the environmental impact, the congestion, the risk of injury or concerns about foul weather, this really boils down to fiscal irresponsibility.
If we are to believe the dollar amounts which have been spent to date and the amount still needed to complete the installation, this is an outrageous amount of money to be spent, for the benefit of nine people! And, who are these people, what makes accommodating them worth this expenditure? One side of the east launch ramp at the Honokohau Harbor has been closed for nearly two years!
If all this money is/was available for boating infrastructure, why has it not been repaired? Doing so would benefit hundreds of boat owners on a daily and weekly basis!
This is really starting to smell and I don’t mean like fish!
