NHCH emergency physicians offer scholarships
Two $1,000 scholarships are available to graduating high school students funded by Hawaii Emergency Physicians Associated, Inc. These scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate financial need and who, without financial assistance, may have limited ability to attend college.
Applicants must be high school seniors from North Hawaii, with a compelling financial need, and must be enrolled full-time during their scholarship year.
Applications are available at nhch.com (see Community/Education Scholarships). Deadline to apply is May 6. Mail completed applications and required documents to North Hawaii Community Hospital, Attention: Development Department, 67-1125 Mamalahoa Highway, Kamuela, HI 96743.

Woodturners meet Friday
West Hawaii Woodturners meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the PacRim Glass Building. Attendees should bring their challenge piece, a chair and lunch.

May blood drives scheduled
Several blood drives are planned in May. To schedule an appointment or check on drive information, call (800) 372-9966 or visit BBH.org. Drives are subject to change.
Blood may be given from 11:15 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. May 9 and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 11 in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kona Hawaii Stake Cultural Hall, 75-230 Kalani St., Kailua-Kona.
A blood drive is also planned from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. May 10 in the Sexton Gallery at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
Older Americans Month Luncheon set
Hawaii County will celebrate May as Older Americans of Hawaii Island at the annual Older Americans Month Luncheon from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 6 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Tickets are $25.
The following individuals will be honored as Hawaii County’s 2016 Outstanding Older Americans: Beverley Brand of Waikoloa, Roy Haslip of Waikoloa, Doreen Henderson of Keaau, Claire Inman of Kailua-Kona, Shirley Ann Kauhaihao of Honaunau, Pearl Kawahara of Hilo, Mary Ann Lim of Kohala, Filomena Miyamoto of Keaau, Eric Mukai of Waimea, Dan Reimer of Waikoloa, Pauline Shinshiro of Waimea, Robert Terukina of Waimea, Billie Jeane Whitney of Waikoloa, Roy Wilson of Hilo.
Private air-conditioned buses will be provided; limited to first 300.

Kona Japanese Civic Association plans festival
The Kona Japanese Civic Association holds its annual festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Konawaena High School cafeteria.
Keiki may enjoy rock climbing, a jumping castle, games, hot dogs and shave ice. The event also includes Japanese food, entertainment including singing, taisho koto ensemble and Kona Daifukuji taiko drums, and displays of ikebana flower arrangements.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
