Free comic book day Saturday at library

The 15th annual free comic book day event will be celebrated at Kailua-Kona Public Library, Thelma Parker Memorial Public &School Library and Hilo Public Library on Saturday.

Those who show a valid Hawaii State Public Library System card at designated libraries will receive a special free comic book, while supplies last.

To add some fun, costumed characters will appear at the Thelma Parker Memorial Library event.

Sing-Me-Awake Playshop planned

Dragonfly Ranch Healing Arts Center will hold a Sing-Me-Awake Playshop from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Co-facilitators visiting from Europe are Angela Bittel and Katja Blagus.

Bittle said, “At this playshop you’ll find out how to use the power of sound and frequencies to tune up your health, mood and positive wellbeing.”

Buddhist round-table discussion planned

The Kona Hongwanji, a Pure Land Buddhist Temple community, offers a monthly round-table discussion at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

Rev. Bruce Y. Nakamura, serving minister, will introduce a monthly theme to welcome the sharing of insights, reflections and readings. There is no fee for participation.

Focusing on the teachings of the Buddha, this Dharma round-table provides a “lotus seat” to share and grow in diverse spiritual awakenings.

Acupressure class offered for seniors

Elderly Recreation Services will offer a 10-week course in acupressure with Wayne Chenault beginning Monday through July 11. Classes are from 9-10 a.m Mondays at St. Benedict’s Church/Painted Church in Honaunau.

Attendees will learn easy techniques to aid in the relief of common ailments such as joint pain, headaches and digestive problems. The class is open to anyone age 55 and older. Cost for this 10-week program is $10.

Kona Elks Lodge holds Mother’s Day brunch

Kona Elks Lodge will hold its annual Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday for members and guests, with a traditional ceremony beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a brunch and entertainment at noon. Cost is $25 per person.

Those who would like to reserve a table to decorate and fill with family and friends, call the Elks Lodge soon. Pianist Lee Stewart will perform from noon to 3 p.m.
