Keck Astronomer Josh Walawender will give a presentation titled “The Birth of Stars” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kailua-Kona Public Library.

The birth of stars is a dynamic process in which young stars interact with the cloud of gas and dust from which they formed. As young stars age and grow, they destroy their parent cloud through stellar winds, outflows, radiation and supernovae. In this talk, Walawender will explore these processes and share examples of them in action. Studying how stars form can give us clues to the origin of our own sun and its collection of planets.
