A single-family home was destroyed by a fire Sunday afternoon on Ohia Street in Puna.

The home was about 30 feet square, a fire department report said, and did not have electric service. The initial response was to prevent the fire from responding to the surrounding brush, followed by extinguishing the blaze. It was brought under control by 2:35 and finally extinguished at 3:45 p.m.

The building did not have a permit and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
