Lavakids Family Fun Runs
On May 21, LavaKids, in partnership with Club Rehab, will host its Family Fun Runs at 7 a.m. on Ane Keohokalole Highway between Palani Road and Kealakehe High School. Look for the Lavaman flags on the mauka side of the road. This is a free event and open to all ages.
The guest speaker this month will be Dee Fraser, who will lead the keiki in an interactive nutrition activity.
Registration will take place at 7 a.m. followed by a keiki dash at 7:45 a.m.. The one-mile and 2-mile run/walk will begin at 7:55 a.m. with the 5k run/walk right after. This event is open to both keiki and adults. Games and supervision will be provided for keiki during the 5k for parents wanting to participate.

Kai Ehitu Regatta
The Kai Ehitu Outrigger Team’s 34th annual Regatta will take place on May 21 at Kailua Pier. Opening ceremonies are slated for 7:30 a.m., followed by the first race at 8 a.m. The event is free and will feature food booths, local farmers, craft vendors and more.

Konawaena Stingrays Basketball Camp
From May 31 to June 4, the Konawaena Stingrays Basketball camp will take place at Konawaena High School.
For ages 5-11, the times are 9 to noon, with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. For ages 12-16, the times are 1:30-4:30 p.m. with doors opening at 1 p.m. The cost is $80 and space is limited.

Kohala Center golf tourney
On May 28 the Kohala Center will host the inaugural Planet Hawaii Golf Tournament at Four Seasons. The event includes golf, prizes, a post-tournament gathering and heavy pupus.

Nobu Yamauchi Memorial Golf Tournament
The 14th annual Nobu Yamauchi Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on June 10 at the Hapuna Golf Course. Entry fee is $150 and the event will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. shotgun start. The price includes green fee, cart, par-3 closest to the pin, team prizes and lunch at Arnys’s at the Hapuna Golf course.
Funds raised will be used for the Nobu Yamauchi RBI Organization and partial scholarships for RBI players who will be attending college.
Team net prizes will be awarded randomly. The low gross prizes will be a Hapuna Prince Golf Package. First place will receive tw0 one-night stays for two, and two Lets Go Crabbing buffet dinners for two. Second low gross prize will be two rounds of golf for two.
The grand prize this year will be a Las Vegas vacation package which includes air travel certificates and a five-day, four-night stay at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. This prize will be awarded to the low net team that finishes 14th overall.
Other prizes include MLB, NFL, and NBA tickets with two-night hotel stays, golf equipment, complimentary golf, restaurant certificates, and much more.

Tee Off for Kids Golf Tournament
Boys & Girls Club Big Island is hosting the 10th annual Tee Off for Kids Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Mauna Lani Bay’s Francis H. I’i Brown South Course on June 11. Registration deadline is May 23.
The event offers the community a fun way to help the youth of Hawaii Island. Participants can make a difference by becoming a sponsor, playing in the golf tournament, contributing prizes, live auction items, monetary donations or volunteering.

Krispy Cream Donut Dash
The Krispy Kreme Donut Dash, sponsoring by Kuleana Education, will take place on June 4. The event starts at 8 a.m. just below Kealakehe High School at the intersection of Ane Keohokaloke and Puohulihuli and will cost $20.
There will be a 5K Donut Dash run/walk as well as a half mile keiki dash with an entry fee of $10. Awards will be given.
Big Island junior swing team
Players ages 10-17 are invited to train to play golf with Coach Laurie Hillyard, an LPGA teaching professional, at the Big Island Country club every Tuesday and Thursday from June 7 to July 28. Sessions run from 12:30-5:30 p.m. and cost is $75 per session with 2-6 players max.
Players must know the basics of the game, have proper fitted clubs and be able to walk nine holes. Each session combines golf specific fitness, swing skill development and challenging drills with a two-hour coach on course playing experience.

Hapuna Roughwater Swim
The Hapuna Roughwater swim will take place on June 18 at 8 a.m. To register for the 1-mile race, go to FLPregister.com/178. There is discounted pricing for early sign-up.

King’s Swim
Kona Aquatics will be hosting the 22nd Annual King’s Swim — a 1.2-mile course which begins at Kailua Bay and ends at Kamakahonu Bay, directly in front of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel on July 4 at 8 a.m. No wetsuits or fins permitted; only USA Swimming approved suits permitted.
Applications are available at Bikeworks. A non-refundable entry fee of $15 must accompany the application. Registration deadline is June 27. Late registration is at Kailua Pier on race day from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at $20 per entry.
Volunteers with kayaks, surfboards, or stand-up paddle boards wishing to join our safely patrol are welcome; please report to the pier before 7:30 a.m. For more information call Steve Borowski at 334-0083.
Keauhou Canoe Club scholarships
Keauhou Canoe Club is offering two $1,500 scholarships — the James F. Rodgers Academic Scholarship and the Mike Haines Merit Achievement scholarship. To date, Keauhou Canoe Club has awarded over $16,000 to well deserving candidates who have continued their pursuit of higher education.

Keiki Summer Tennis/Sports Camp
The Hilton Waikoloa will host a tennis/sports camp throughout the summer for young players ages 6-16.
Camps will take place June 6-10, 13-17, 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 11-15, 18-22 and 25-29. Camps, which will accept all skill levels from beginners to junior competition level, will go Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp will also included swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and mini-golf.

Scott Head, the VP of Resort Operations at Waikoloa Beach Resort, talks about multi sport events at Waikoloa including the recent Lavaman Waikoloa, Bike Works Sunset Run and Cinco De Mayo Swim, and the Tuesday morning community bike rides at Queens Marketplace.
He will also go over Waikoloa Beach Resort hosting the Hawaii Visitor Industry annual 3.1 Charity Walk/Run on Saturday that starts and ends at the Waikoloa Bowl with 20 food stands from area restaurants for all the participants afterward. The goal is to raise $315,000 for charities on Hawaii Island. Call 333-9768 for information.

Play With a VET Golf Tournament
Kona VFW Post 12122 will hold their 2nd annual golf tournament on Saturday at the Kona Country Club. Check in time is 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
It will be a two-person scramble, skill challenges and lunch buffet at the Post off of Kaiwi behind Kona Locksmith, Fees are $125 per individual: $240 for a two person team; and $100 per person military. Contact person is Tournament Chairman Pat Pastor 990-3841 for sign up and/ or donations.
Skill challenges will be longest drive off the tee. closes to pin on a par 3, and hole in one at a designated par 3 with the prize to be determined of either cash or a car. There will many many door prizes to be given out at the Post luncheon.
All proceeds from the tournament will benefit VFW Post 12122, Veterans Organizations, scholarships, veterans families, and other charities on Hawaii Island.
