Jack Hatayama

Jack Y. Hatayama, 93, of Mountain View died April 21, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Mountain View, he was the retired owner/operator of the former Hatayama Bus Service &Auto Repair, auto mechanic and auto body repairman, bus driver and a member of the Kurtistown Jodo Mission Kyodan, No Huhu Golf Club and Kilauea Volcano Country Club.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Shigeko Hatayama of Mountain View; sons, Howard (Pamela) Hatayama of Oakland, Calif., Arnold (Soonja) Hatayama of Hilo, Lloyd Hatayama of Mountain View; daughter, Joy (Clifford) Tomosada of Hilo; brother, Mack (Marjorie Corley) Hatayama of Volcano; sisters, Harriet Kotake of Mountain View, Aileen Muramatsu of Kaneohe, Oahu; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Ito

Kenneth Kazumi Ito, 98, of Pahala died May 8, 2016, at Ka‘u Hospital. Born in Kapapala, he was a retired welder for the former Ka‘u Sugar Co., member of Pahala Hongwanji Mission and Pahala Senior Citizens.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Fujiko Ito of Hilo; sons, Vernon (Gayle) Ito of Hilo, Newton (Cecilia) Ito of Pahala; daughters, Leatrice (Roy) Hirohata, Jerre (Reed) Jean Tokairin, both of Honolulu; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Albert Kami

Albert Akihiro Kami, 91, of Hilo died May 7, 2016, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Dec. 28, 1924, in Hilo, he served as in interpreter in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Service in occupied Japan and retired as assistant vice president from Bank of Hawaii.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by son, Mark Kami of Honolulu; daughter, Clarysse (Randal) Nunokawa of Hilo; brothers, Hideo (Tsuyuko) Kami, Ralph (Chiyoko) Kami, both of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

David Peralta

David “Pops” Albert Peralta, 72, of Pahoa died April 3, 2016, at his residence. Born March 2, 1944, in California, he was a former director and pastor of Under His Wings Street Ministry.

He is survived by wife, Colleen Peralta of Pahoa, daughters, Michelle (DJ) Hansman of Oregon, Kimberly Peralta of Orange County, Calif.; stepsons, Abraham Ayin of Hilo, Robert (Sarah) Pihi of Idaho, Kaponoaulani Kuheana of San Diego; stepdaughter, Monalisa (Lawrence) Fong of Honolulu; brothers, Peter Peralta Jr., Jessie Peralta, both of California; one grandchild; 11 stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mary Axtell

Mary Gillson Axtell, 66, of Paauilo died May 14, 2016, at the Hale Hoola Hamakua in Honokaa. Born Nov. 15, 1949, in Falkirk, Scotland, she was a member of Princess Mary’s Royal Nursing Corps.

A public memorial service is tentatively scheduled for July 15 in Las Vegas.

She is survived by husband, Eric Axtell of Paauilo; sons, Richard Axtell of Mapel Valley, Wash., Pete Axtell of Las Vegas; daughter, Juile Poe of Piney Point, Md.; stepdaughters, Carolyn Axtell of Torquay, England, Debbie Axtell of Litchfield, England; grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Mackenzie, Matthew, Dillon and Brandon; brothers, Joe McDonald, Malcolm McDonald, both of Grangemouth, Scotland; sister, Margaret Scott of Grangemouth, Scotland.

Robert Thomas

Robert Lawrence Thomas, 61, of Paauilo died May 3, 2016. Born Dec. 12, 1954, in Honokaa, he was a cook at Lilikoi Café.

He is survived by sister, Deidre (Milton) Mitsuka of Waimea; two nieces; twp nephews; numerous cousins.
