Alzheimer’s Association talks planned

The Alzheimer’s Association will hold several events at the Regency at Hualalai, 75-181 Hualalai Road, Kailua-Kona.

At 6 p.m. Friday, Chris Ridley will present “What Is Dementia?” This seminar will include the latest information on the warning signs of dementia, stages, symptoms and treatments.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, Ridley will present “Legal Affairs and Dementia.” He will discuss dementia and potential legal needs, legal capacity, advance health care directives, financial planning and organizing legal financial affairs. At 11 a.m., the movie, “I’ll Be Me” with Glen Campbell will be shown. Then at 1 p.m., Ridley will present “Communication and Behaviors in Dementia,” which includes information on why behaviors occur and possible interventions.

Kawaihae Canoe Club steak fry coming up

Kawaihae Canoe Club will host a steak fry from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the north end of the small boat harbor. The event includes a steak dinner, country music, dancing, and live and silent auctions.

Tickets are $20, or $25 at the door.

Hui Laulima meets

West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the Salvation Army, 75-223 Kalani St., Kailua-Kona.

The Hui welcomes Toni Symons, service program director of Na Kahua Hale O Ulu Wini, which provides safe, healthy transitional housing for homeless families and empowering programs for capacity building for their future.

The Hui Laulima is a consortium of West Hawaii’s major health and human service providers, faith-based groups, community associations, businesses, government and concerned individuals. It encourages collaboration particularly around matters affecting West Hawaii’s youth and families.

Free yoga class helps teachers unwind after the school year

A free yoga class for teachers and school staff will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Malama Holistic Health Center in Holualoa. The class offers meditation and gentle movement to celebrate the beginning of summer break. No previous yoga experience is needed.

Meditation class planned

Teachings of Awakening with Gavin Harrison is planned from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 5 at Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St., Waimea

Sitting and walking meditation, dialogue and time for questions will be included. Groups are non-denominational and open to all. Meditation guidance is offered. Attendees should bring a meditation cushion. Chairs are available. Donations are accepted. The class is held on the first Sunday of each month.
