Raphael Gomes

Raphael “Ralph” Gomes, 84, of Captain Cook died April 17, 2016, at Tripler Hospital. Born May 30, 1931, in Kona, he was a cook in the Merchant Marines, painter for the U.S. government in Kwajalein, coffee farmer in Milolii, and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Army.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Inurnment will follow at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire and no omit flowers. Condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by sister, Thomasina Fogliani of San Carlos, Calif.; brothers, Joseph Henry (Linda) Gomes of California, Theodore (Gwen) Gomes of Waimea, Bobby (Phoebe) Gomes of Pahala; numerous nieces and nephews.

Elisara Paogofie

Elisara Paogofie, 72, of Kailua-Kona died May 17, 2016, at the Kohala Hospital. Born May 16, 1944, in Pavaiai, American Samoa, he was a foreman for United Fishing Agency, and member of Kona United Methodist Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. June 3 at Kona United Methodist Church for a 9 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

Michael Carr

Michael Carmichael Carr, 85, of Naalehu died May 20, 2016, at his home. He was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Washington.

Friends may call at 2:30 p.m. June 4 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Naalehu for a service, followed by a gathering at Waiohinu Park.

He is survived by wife, Kathleen Flynn Carr of Naalehu; daughters, Constance Carr of California, Deborah Smith of Florida; one grandson; one stepson; one stepdaughter; four stepgrandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Joseph “Joe” Kaui Kahihikolo, Jr., 66, of Mountain View, died May 10, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 12, 1949, in Honolulu, he was a retired laundry sorter for Hawaiian Linen Supply.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 4 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Cremation will follow. Family requests casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by son, Iokepa Kahihikolo of Germany; daughter, Benjaline (Charles) England of Mountain View; stepson, Curtis (Kanani) Kahikina of Mountain View; brothers, Stephen Campos of Waianae, Oahu, Rodney (Pearl) Campos Sr. of Honokai Hale, Oahu; sister, Roberta Kahihikolo of Kaneohe, Oahu; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Everett Kaiama

Everett Konakai Kaiama, 86, of Waimea died April 16, 2016, at his residence. Born in Lahaina, he was a retired foreman and heavy equipment operator for Hawaiian Dredging Co., Kiewit Construction, Morrison Knudsen Construction and a cattle rancher, member of Imiola Congregational Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 4 at Imiola Congregational Church in Waimea for a 10 a.m. celebration of life. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Kaiama of Waimea; sons, Dexter (Manu) Kaiama of Kailua, Oahu, Samuel (Amy) Kaiama of Waimea; daughters, Paulette (Ben) Vocal of Honokaa, Rachel Kaiama of Oahu; stepsons, Robert Cabuag of Oahu, Brian (Sarah) Cabuag of North Carolina, David (Maurice) Cabuag Jr. of Oahu; stepdaughter, Stacey Cabuag of Hilo; brother, Arthur (Beth) Kaiama of California; sister, Gwendolyn Kim of Oahu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Wilfred Chaves

Wilfred Cabral Chaves, 83, of Hilo died May 20, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired iron worker for Hawaiian Reinforced Steel and was a member of the Iron Workers Union No. 625 and served as its trustee for 20 Years.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. June 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. celebration of his life. Burial will follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by daughters, Doreen Spencer, Kathleen (Alfred) Agaran, Gwen (Wilder) Jamile, Stacey (Ricky Alaniz) Furtado, Selina (Dominic) Meditz, Rosie (Sterling) Miles; stepdaughter, Aileen (Robin) Alvarez; sons, Joseph Chaves, Sean (Noe Tom) Chaves, Wilfred (Jaye) Tabian; sisters, Sandy (Harry) Hueu, Mildred Ayau, Linda (Clarence) Santos; brother, Richard (Patricia) Chaves; 36 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

David Loeding

David Ray Loeding, of Keaau died May 21, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 7, 1954, in Minnesota, he was a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Kona and a teacher at the Korean University of Foreign Studies, Registrar at Hawaii Community College and statistician.

He is survived by daughter, Jinju Loeding of the mainland.

Charles Earl Davis, 66, of Kailua-Kona, died April 17, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 13, 1950, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was a recycler.
