Date has changed for play about Queen Liliuokalani

The date has changed for a one-woman show taken directly from the writings of Queen Liliuokalani. “Liliuokalani at Washington Place” will be performed by Jackie Pualani Johnson at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 on the Kilauea Visitor Center lanai at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The performance will not be given in June.

Kona Pacific PCS continues mobile summer lunch program

Kona Pacific Public Charter School, along with program partner Hawaii Island Youth Corps, will once again serve lunch to children ages up to 18 years old this summer through the Summer Food Service Program.

This program is Hawaii’s first and only mobile summer lunch program, and served more than 4,300 lunches in 2015, the first year of operation.

Eight other community partners have stepped up to help fight childhood hunger over the summer of 2016, when schools and school lunch programs are closed. These Summer Food Service partners include the management of Kaimalino, Jack Hall, Lailani, Ulu Wini, Lokahi Ka’u and Kahaluu affordable apartments in Kailua-Kona, the youth program managers of Keauhou and Keoua Honaunau canoe clubs, and the Happy Feet Soccer program.

Meals will be provided to all children under age 18 without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

Meals will be provided at these sites, Monday through Friday from June 6 to July 29:

Kaimalino Housing: 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Jack Hall Housing: 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

Lailani Housing: 11:30 a.m. to noon

Ulu Wini Housing: 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Lokahi Ka’u Housing: Noon to 12:30 p.m.

Hale Halawai: 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Kahaluu Housing: 12:45 to 1:15 p.m.

Keauhou Canoe Club: 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Keoua Honaunau Canoe Club: 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Free homeownership seminar planned

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union will host a free educational seminar on the “ABCs of Homeownership” at their Kaloko Facility, 73-5611 Olowalu St., in the John Y. Iwane Credit Union Center Training Room. The workshop is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Would be homeowners will be treated to a presentation by Reina Miyamoto, Program Director of the Hawaii HomeOwnership Center. Key topics include dispelling home buying myths, the benefits of homeownership and a look at various purchase assistance programs.
