LIHUE (AP) — Organizers of a benefit concert to raise money for cancer treatment say police intimidated attendees by setting up a roadblock barricading the event and checking each car that passed through, ultimately affecting their ability to raise money.
The Garden Island reports (http://bit.ly/1Yp0TAT ) attendance at Saturday’s Reggae for Life concert in Koloa was hundreds fewer than expected with less than 50 people. Last year’s concert brought out about 250 people.
Concert organizer Phillip “Angel” White says this year’s event resulted in a $9,000 loss. He says he doesn’t understand why police were outside the event, which offered prize drawings, a rodeo and food vendors.
County spokeswoman Sarah Blane says the Kauai Police Department set up a DUI checkpoint, but that it wasn’t intended specifically for the concert.
No arrests were made.
