HONOLULU (AP) — The founder of a former Hawaii organization that encouraged the adoption of foster children has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls.
The Honolulu prosecuting attorney’s office says a judge sentenced Louis Martinez on Tuesday.
A jury found him guilty last year after deliberating for less than three hours.
The girls were 11 and 16 at the time of the assaults in 2011.
Prosecutors say he assaulted the older girl in her sleep after giving her hard liquor.
Martinez opened Heart Gallery Hawaii in 2005 under the name David Louis. That’s the name he used to author a book about his experiences growing up in foster care.
Heart Gallery Hawaii was the local chapter of a national organization that recruits parents for hard-to-adopt foster children.
