Lau good choice for mayor

I am writing to you about Wally Lau, who is running for Mayor of Hawaii County. I am a teacher and my first job was with Wally Lau at Neighborhood Place.

Wally started Neighborhood Place to help struggling families and connect them with support systems. One way he did this was through the Hui Laulima, a group of community organizations. Alvin Rho and Wally Lau worked together to help families.

Years ago, I heard that an effective leader leads by example instead of dictating to others. That’s mostly how Wally leads, by example. He never told me to take Olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian Language) but he had Hawaiian words all over the walls so I took two semesters of Olelo Hawaii. Wally is a good person who listens and has aloha for everyone. He is honorable and does not participate in gossip. Wally is also an environmentalist.

When Wally was appointed to run the new Civic Center he made changes. First, he put solar panels on the parking garage roof. Then he set up recycling in each office; compost, paper, cardboard, cans, bottles etc.

Then he set up each meeting room to have the lights go on when we entered and go off once we left. He cares about this island, he has aloha for everyone and I am confident he will be the best mayor this island has ever had.

Register to vote and vote Wally Lau for mayor.
