Caroline Haena

Caroline Theresa Haena, 75, of Hilo died June 8, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Nov. 21, 1940, in Hilo, she was a caregiver.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. June 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at the Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Papaikou. Casual attire is requested.

She is survived by brothers, Calvin (Marie) Haena of Kailua-Kona, David Haena of Hilo, Bernard (Sonia) Haena of Kailua-Kona; sister, Josephine (Valentine) Galang of Alta Loma, Calif.; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and an aunt.

Samuel Bento Jr.

Samuel Bento Jr., 60, of Hilo died June 10, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a salesperson for Aiona Car Sales and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; for a 10:30 a.m. celebration of life. Burial will follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by mother, Sumiko Bento of Hilo; sisters, Laura-Lee (Raymond, III) Rodrigues, Jeannette Kama Bento, both of Hilo; one nephew, one niece, three grandnephews, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Lillian Bargamento

Lillian Kanealai Bargamento, 83, of Hilo died June 2, 2016. Born June 25, 1932, in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. June 25 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow, then a luncheon is planned at the church.

She is survived by sons, Kenneth (Caridad) Bargamento of Germany, Bertram (Melody) Bargamento of Mililani Mauka, Oahu; daughters, Sheila (Mitchell) Green of Aliso Viejo, Calif., Maureen (Timothy) Begas of Ookala, Althea (Tracy) Tanaka of Honolulu, Geoliette (Kurt) Ng of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Frederick (Ada) Amina of Nanakuli, Oahu, Edward (Susan) Amina of Waikele, Oahu, Thomas (Phil Sun) Amina of Oahu, James (April) Amina of Kalihi, Oahu; sisters, Jacqueline (Herbert) Rapoza of Hilo, Peggy Fukuhara of Ladson, South Carolina, Wilma Villanueva of Honolulu, Melva (Edwin) Chung Hoon of Wahiawa, Oahu, Ellen Mae (Earl) Naeole of Makakilo, Oahu, Michele (Don) Riley of Oahu; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwendellyn Yamamoto

Gwendellyn Waahiaokalani Yamamoto, 82, of Kapaau died June 13, 2016, at home. Born in Paauhau, she was a retired hostess and waitress for various hotels and restaurants and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. June 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward in Hawi for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawi County Cemetery. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Armstrong (Maraiah) Yamamoto Jr. of Pahoa, Jason (Lisa) Yamamoto, Clayton (Rita) Yamamoto Sr., both of Kohala, Douglas (Heidi) Yamamoto of Waikoloa; daughters, Gwendellyn (James) Sanchez of Kohala, Agnes (Jacques) Chung Hee of Mountain Home, Idaho, Milley (Timothy) Lino of Kona, Kathleen (Claude) Caravalho of Keaau; brother, Reynolds Nakooka Kamakawiwoole Jr. of Paauhau; 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Alan Kiriu

Alan Rikio Kiriu, aka “da humble fisherman” died June 2, 2016. He was born Oct. 19, 1962.

Fumie Mukai, 90, of Papaikou died June 9, 2016, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born Dec. 15, 1925, in Ichikawa, Chiba, Japan, she was a homemaker.

Private services held. No flowers. No monetary offerings.

She is survived by daughter, Mandy Mukai of Papaikou; sister-in-law, Tamiko Yasuda of Chiba, Japan; numerous nephews and nieces in Hawaii and Japan.
