HONOLULU (AP) — The owners of a papaya farm on Oahu are seeking help from the community in catching the thieves who struck their Punaluu property, resulting in a loss of thousands of dollars.
KHON-TV reports that the Kamiya family says the thieves were spotted taking off with “buckets of papayas” as well as a portable toilet valued at $2,500.
The president of Kamiya Gold Inc., Ken Kamiya, says they have installed a fence in an attempt to keep the thieves away and are also working with the Hawaii Farm Bureau to better protect local farmers.
He says theft on farms is an ongoing issue and that more should be done to stop the criminal activity.
