Rotary Clubs announce upcoming speakers

The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka will hold its monthly board meeting during its regularly scheduled lunch meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant. Info: Gary Rovelstad, RGRKonaMauka@gmail.com, 324-0318.

On Thursday, the Rotary Club of Kona will host Chris Lieto, a former professional triathlete who is now chairman of More Than Sport, a corporation that supports clean water, food, medical care, education and housing. Hospital staff to address cancer support group

A cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Honalo. People newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as caregivers and family members.

Dr. Scott Moon and Sanoe Kauhane from Kona Community Hospital’s cancer treatment staff will give a talk titled, “The Power of Palliative Radiation.” The group will also discuss plans for participation in and donations for the Walk of Life on July 9.

The support group meets to discuss cancer-related issues and lend support to on another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer.

Wing Chun Kung Fu demonstration offered to youth

Lawrence Ramirez Sifu will give a presentation on the martial arts style of Wing Chun Kung Fu for sixth- through 12th-graders at Kailua-Kona Public Library.

The event is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Attendees will learn a brief history of martial arts, personal safety and awareness, and observe actual demonstrations.

Gay pride march, bazaar this weekend

Edible World Institute and The Hui Hale collective will celebrate Gay Pride 2016 this weekend.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Edible 75-5699 Kopiko St. for pupu, cocktails and music. A three-course meal will be served from 6-7:30 p.m. Evening entertainment includes belly dancers and fire acrobats concluding at 9:30 p.m.

Participants will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday for a 10:30 a.m. Community Pride Walk to King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Bring beach gear to enjoy the water. A bazaar will be held in The Club parking lot from 1-4 p.m. Vendors will feature services, art and handmade functional crafts. Life performers will entertain. Food and drinks will be sold.
