Shadow, a well-known face at Kona Stories bookstore in Keauhou, died July 2. The female cat had been part of the bookstore ohana since 2007 and was the store’s official greeter. People often stopped by just to pet the feline.

To celebrate Shadow’s life, book store owners Brenda and Joy will hold a public memorial on Saturday. Brenda will make her sangria that will be served with cookies. Nonalcoholic beverages will be available for the keiki.

A book will also be available for anyone to write their Shadow remembrances. Customers will receive a free one-of-a kind Shadow bookmark, as well. Shadow was pregnant and had already lost one eye when she was adopted by Brenda and Joy at the store’s former Mango Court location. After her kittens were found good homes, she was spayed and vaccinated. The once-feral cat decided to stay at the bookstore thereafter.

Kona Stories will be donating 10 percent of the sales from this Saturday to AdvoCats. AdvoCats will also be present to share information about their feral cat program. Additional donations can be made in Shadow’s memory at the bookstore and online at www.advocatshawaii.org.
