Blossom Kahawai

Blossom “Grandma B” Soon Kahawai, 89, of Hilo died June 22, 2016, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born May 14, 1927, in Wailuku, Maui, she was a retired secretary from the former Naniloa Surf Hotel, secretary for the former Mayor Shunichi Kimura, outside sales representative for Travel Professionals, lei maker, and member of Aunty Sally’s Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 14 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park Ilima Section. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by children, Alden Keala (Laurie Elizares) Kahawai, Edward (Robin Eising) Mahaulu, Gwen Kekua, Paula (Rodney) Isabel, all of Hilo, Lori (Bill) Trumbo of Kona, Lance (Monique) Kahawai of Arizona; brother, Philip (Adeline) Soon Jr. of Honolulu; sister, Goldie (Arlon) Tom of Honolulu; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Paul Jensen

Paul Gillespie Jensen, 73, of Kailua-Kona died June 20, 2016, at Kona Community Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born May 4, 1943, in Oakland, Calif., he was a retired Realtor with Clark Realty, Keauhou. He had long career in international sales, first with Printed Circuits Int’l, Sunnyvale, Calif., then with Optical Coating Laboratories, based in Santa Rosa, Calif., and was an expert in the Far East and lived in Singapore for almost five years before moving to Kona.

A celebration of life will be held from 3 p.m. to sunset July 16 at Kona By The Sea. Food will be provided.

Paul is survived by wife, Kathleen Jensen of Kailua-Kona; stepson, Brian (Amy) Jensen of San Mateo, Calif.; sister, Barbara (Ray) Capra of Lafayette, Calif.; two granddaughters; three nieces and a nephew.

Frank Gomes, Jr.

Frank Gomes, Jr., 81, of Kailua-Kona, died May 30, 2016, at his residence. Born March 22, 1935, in Kealakekua, he was a retired automobile and diesel mechanic, owner of the former Kona Auto and Diesel Repair, a rancher, fisherman and coffee farmer.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. July 16 at the Kahaluu Beach Park pavilion. Casual attire. No flowers.

He is survived by wife, Loretta Gomes; daughters, Rosemarie (Cy) Yamamoto, Pamela (Kenneth) Yonemura, all of Kailua-Kona, Bernadine (Wendell) Fujino of Kealakekua; sons, Ronald Gomes, Jason Gomes; hanai son, Jimmy Bousche; sisters, Lillian Choy, all of Kailua Kona, Agnes Tavares of Honolulu, Lorraine Loando of Kailua-Kona, Thelma Henriques of Waikoloa, Cheryl (Carroll) Pickett, Phyllis (Tim) Shimatsu, all of Kailua-Kona; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolyn Blankfield

Services have been set for Carolyn Vivien Blankfield, 75, of Hilo, who died April 26, 2016.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. July 17 at Wailoa State Park Pavilion No. 2 (large pavilion) for a memorial service. Refreshments will be provided. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made to Hawaii Public Radio or the Palace Theater.

Elijah Spencer

Elijah Alan Spencer, 3, of Kurtistown died June 21, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kentucky, he and his mother are members of the Gaia Yoga Gardens Family in Pahoa.

Services will be held in Kentucky.

He is survived by parents, Jason and April Spencer of Kurtistown and Kentucky; brothers, Zachary Spencer of Kentucky, J. Hunter Spencer of Kurtistown; maternal grandmother, Deborah McCaney of Kentucky; paternal grandparents, Jim and Geneva Spencer of Kentucky.
