Ross earns Licensed Coffee Q Grader status

Laura Ross from Waimea has earned Licensed Q Grader status, the highest award in the coffee industry. There are fewer than 350 Licensed Q Graders in the United States. Ross is one of the few women in Hawaii who has earned this status.

Ross was required to take 22 tests which included identifying 36 coffee aromas, six coffee acids, coffee origins by taste and coffee defects. She received a perfect score on all 22 tests. Ross is the master roaster at Hula Daddy Kona Coffee.

Document helps homeless veterans access services

Members of the Community Alliance Partners, a coalition of more than 30 community service providers, have developed a strategic mapping document to help the Big Island’s nearly 100 homeless veterans gain access to support services.

In the past, no single source document had been complied that identified how and where homeless veterans could go for help. With this document, all services providers will be able to identify support services for veterans.
