Library book club meets July 19
The Kona Library Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. July 19 on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona Library. An incorrect date for the meeting was published in Friday’s edition.
It is the policy of West Hawaii Today to correct promptly any incorrect or misleading information when it is brought to the attention of the newspaper.
Christmas in July craft fair slated
The 24th annual Joann Williams Christmas in July Art, Gift, Jewelry and Craft Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in the Kamakahonu Ballroom and under tents in the parking lot.
This event features vendors from all over Hawaii with exclusive items. Available goods include jams, ornaments, quilts, ceramics, dolls, Santas, jewelry, lotions, clothing, jerky and wood items.
Admission is free and prizes donated by each vendor will be given away throughout the day. A silent auction will benefit a nonprofit.

Hospice volunteer training coming up
Hospice of Kona is offering free volunteer training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 19-20 at the Hospice of Kona Community Service Center, 75-5925 Walua Road, Suite 102.
Attendance on both days is mandatory to become a certified hospice volunteer.
All compassionate, caring, reliable, community members are invited to attend. Bring a brown bag lunch. Refreshments and snacks provided throughout the day.

Kiwanis Club meets Wednesday
Kiwanis Club of Kailua-Kona will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Humpy’s upstairs room in Coconut Grove Marketplace on Alii Drive. All visiting Kiwanis and prospective members are invited. The speaker will be Wendy Laros, chairwoman of the Education and Workforce Development Committee at Kailua-Kona Chamber of Commerce.
Kiwanis looks to serve the community by conducting service projects that respond to identified needs, especially related to children.

Voting registration deadline approaches
The Office of Elections and County Clerks of Hawaii remind voters that Thursday is the deadline to register to vote in the Aug. 13 Primary Election.
To be eligible to register to vote, you must be a U.S. Citizen, a Hawaii resident and at least 18 years of age.
Hawaii residents have several ways to register or update their registration:
· Online at www.elections.hawaii.gov by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday A Hawaii Driver’s License or Hawaii State ID is required to register online.
· Mail a completed Wikiwiki Voter Registration form to your Clerk’s Office postmarked on or before Thursday. Forms are available at post offices, libraries and at most state agencies. The voter registration form may also be downloaded at www.elections.hawaii.gov.
· Apply in-person at your Clerk’s Office or at the Office of Elections by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Seniors plan beach day
Kailua-Kona Seniors are planning a trip to Spencer Beach Park Wednesday. They depart Hale Halawai at 9 a.m. and return at noon.
Hot dogs will be available for lunch. Attendees should bring a potluck dish to share and remember the transportation fee for their driver.
There is no meeting at Hale Halawai this week.

Gentle yoga class offered
A gentle yoga class is planned from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Yano Hall in Kealakekua. Donations will be accepted.
Gentle yoga, practiced sitting on a chair, standing, or on the floor, reduces stress by resolving tension and aligning the spine, muscles and nerves. Designed to relieve back, shoulder and neck pain, gentle yoga flow also restores digestive flow and improves circulation.
Update given on Honaunau hale halawai
On Friday, Keoua Honaunau Canoe Club will host a community meeting to share progress on its grant-funded project aimed at strengthening the Hawaiian cultural landscape of the Honaunau coastal area. The meeting will be from 4:30–6:30 p.m. at the canoe club halau at Honaunau Bay.
During the two-year Honaunau Ola Mau Loa project, a traditional hale halawai at Honaunau Bay, the Hale O Hooponopono, will be reestablished, involving a hale builder training program for five haumana (interns) and a series of seven community hale workshops.
The reestablished hale, when completed, will be used for cultural and environmental education activities and practices. Uncle Walter Wong, a Hawaii Island Certified Hale Builder, is directing the building activities.
The project also involves the establishment of an ahupuaa boundary marker system for the four ahupuaa between Honaunau and Napoopoo, modeled after a similar project in Kaneohe, Oahu.
The establishment of a Hawaii-wide system of marking these traditional ahupuaa boundaries is seen as a significant step toward educating the public about the ahupuaa system.
