KAILUA-KONA — No injuries were reported following a fire at a homeless campsite early Wednesday at Old Kona Airport in Kailua-Kona.

Kailua Fire Station personnel responded to the campsite, located on the park’s mauka boundary in the vicinity of the old the former licensing office near the northern entrance to the park, about 1:05 a.m., according to the Hawaii Fire Department. The fire was extinguished and firefighters were on their way back to the station by 1:19 a.m.

The blaze was the result of a campfire that apparently ignited a tent, fire officials said. It did not spread beyond the campsite.
