The Sarah Rosenberg Memorial Foundation Scholarships were recently awarded at Kealakehe High School. Separated into two categories, the “Kupono” Most Outstanding Waverider awardees are evaluated on their academic achievements as well as school and community involvement. The “Lokomaikai” Most Charitable Waverider Award wherein school and community involvement are the main criteria.

Courtney Nelson is attending Occidental College in Los Angeles and is taking part in a 3-2 program that will result in a degree in physics from Occidental and a degree in engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Madeline Foo will attend the University of California at Los Angeles and is majoring in biology with a focus on pre-medicine.

Rosenberg was a successful student-athlete at Kealakehe High School from Aug 2001-Dec 2004. She was killed in a traffic accident during her senior year. Over the course of her high school career, she came to embody the highest qualities of a Kealakehe High School Waverider: a student who builds and cherishes strong relationships, earns and shows respect towards all people and willingly fulfills all of their responsibilities. After Rosenberg’s death, a fund was established through the Hawaii Community Foundation so the scholarships would be perpetual.
