HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii’s attorney general is the new chairman for a group of his counterparts in the western states.

The Conference of Western Attorneys General elected Doug Chin to be its chairman. The selection was announced Tuesday at the conference’s annual meeting in Idaho.

Chin’s office says he’s the first Hawaii attorney general to serve as chairman of the group.

He will host members in Honolulu for meetings in March that will include open government and sustainable energy solutions.

The conference addresses various legal topics, with a focus on those that are of common interest to the west such as water, public lands and environmental protection.
