Seniors

The Gold Coast Softball Seniors got off to a booming start at the Western Regionals in Montana on Friday.

The Big Island squad opened with a 12-10 win over Montana/Zoo-Town, and followed it up with an overwhelming 24-1 win over Washington/District 4.

Shaylee Alani led the way offensively, going a combined 6 for 9 in the two games with six RBIs and seven runs scored. Teizha Kaluna also did some major damage with her bat, registering seven RBIs against Washington in a 5 for 5 performance at the plate.

Kaluna and Antoinette (Missy) Fernandez recorded the wins inside the circle.

Gold Coast is back on the diamond today for two games against Oregon and Arizona.

Majors

A six-run explosion in the fifth inning spurred California/Peach Bowl to a 9-2 win in six innings over Gold Coast in San Bernardino, California on Friday at the Little League Softball Majors West Regionals.

Tehani Epenesa had an RBI for Gold Coast, while Kierra Molina, Nanea Kalua’u, Johnna Lorenzo, Pilila’i Kaai and Kanoe Piltz also had hits.

Maggie Penning picked up the win for Peach Bowl. Penning pitched six innings and allowed no earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out three.

Gold Coast was hurt by a few miscues in the field, with three errors leading to two unearned runs. Telsea Taketa was charged with the loss. She allowed nine runs in six innings, walking three and striking out three.

The Gold Coast Majors will look to rebound against Idaho today.
