Melvyn Toshimi Hayashida, 63, of Kailua-Kona died July 10, 2016 in Honolulu. Born in Kealakekua, he was a bartender at Sam’s Hideaway.

He is survived by wife, Karen; daughters, Jo-Anne (Chris), Koren (Tom), Trisha (Danny); sister, Lynne (Wayne) Sasaki; brother, Lorrin (Cheri) Hayashida; two nephews; six grandchildren.

Thomas Kaniho
Thomas Kaniho, 88, of South Point died June 11, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on May 6, 1928, in Waimea, he was a proprietor and retired cowboy and rancher. He was a member of the Kauahaao Congregational Church in Waiohinu and an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 30 at Kaauaha’ao Congregational Church in Waiohinu for a 10 a.m. service. Aloha attire; cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary. Scattering of ashes will be at a later date.
He is survived by wife, Felisa Kaniho of South Point; sons, Thomas Dean (Tissy) Kaniho of South Point, Leebert (Le’ann) of Ocean View, Lambert (Eileen) Naboa of Discovery Harbour, Keone (Edana) Takahashi of Waipahu; daughters, Theone Ryder of Texas, Thomasine Beck of Kona, Myra (Alfred) Keanu of South Point, Leinell Naboa and Leivanell (Dennis) Salmo of Pahala; Leinette (Greg) Noritake of Washington; brother, Martin Kaniho of Alaska; sister, Jane Gouveia and Mary Tegman, both of Waimea, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Randall Takaki
Randall Morio Takaki, 64, of Volcano died July 14, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kealakekua, he was a sculpture artist.

He is survived by sons, Jason Takaki of Maui, Blaine Takaki of Hilo; daughter, Raimee Everett of Hilo; mother, Ayame Takaki of Volcano; sisters, Patrice (Howard) Araki of Waikoloa, Phyllis (Ron) Shinno of Hilo, Michelle Takaki of Volcano; brother, Radley (Carol) Takaki of Alaska; four grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vicenta “Vicky” Tobias, 83, of Waikoloa died July 18, 2016. Born Dec. 24, 1932, in Kahuku, Oahu, she was a pantry worker in the hotel industry.

Yoshie Yamashita
Yoshie Yamashita, 96, of Keaau died July 3, 2016, at a private care home in Keaau. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired clerk stenographer for the County of Hawaii’s Office of Aging, member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and its Buddhist Women’s Association, Keaau Golf Club and a retired member of HGEA.
Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.
She is survived by son, Ronald Yamashita of Hood River, Ore.; daughters, Pauline Yamashita of Tacoma, Wash., Arlene (Ted) Togashi of Fairfax, Va.; brother, Masami (Jean) Nakata of Honolulu; sister, Hanako Nakata of Mountain View; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
