Senior Roundtable Hui to discuss loneliness

The Senior Roundtable Hui meets from 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday at the Pink Mocha Cafe to discuss “Fixing Loneliness.”

A 10-question guide will open discussion about strategies to cope with loneliness. The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss an aging topic. There is no charge for the meeting other than if purchasing a coffee of tea.

Suicide Prevention Task Force seeks new members

The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force is seeking new members and will hold its monthly meeting from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at the West Hawaii Community Health Center, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway on the corner of Hualalai Road.

The group’s mission is suicide prevention and support to families and friends who are left behind in the wake of suicide.

Small business seminar offered

Have you ever thought about owning your own business? Is entrepreneurship right for you? How do you get started? These questions will be answered at the How To Start A Business In Hawaii workshop from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Kuakini Tower, Suite 216 in Kailua-Kona.

The class is hosted by Hawaii Small Business Development Center Network and presented by Dennis Boyd. Cost is $20.

West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets

West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 5 at The Salvation Army, 75-223 Kalani St., Kailua-Kona.

The hui welcomes David Hipp, executive director of Salvation Army Family Intervention Services. Also speaking will be Dawn Johansen, community outreach coordinator of Hoola Na Pua, a nonprofit addressing sex trafficking in Hawaii.

The Hui Laulima is a consortium of West Hawaii’s major health and human service providers, faith-based groups, community associations, businesses, government and concerned individuals.

Library offers Wii gaming for teens

Kailua-Kona Public Library is offering Wii U Gaming for teens ages 13-17. There will be free chips and drinks and participation is first come, first served. Programs will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 and from 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17.

7 firefighters honored at fundraising gala

Tickets are now on sale for the 19th annual Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Annual Awards Dinner and Fundraiser set for Sept. 3 The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii. The event starts at 4:30 p.m. with the opening of the silent auction.

The cost of each gourmet buffet dinner is $110 for adults; $58 per child up to the age of 12. Patrons may also choose to sponsor a dinner for a firefighter and/or spouse at a cost of $100 per person. The gala also includes a live auction and dancing to the live music of Vizion 20/20. Registration is available at DanielSayreFoundation.org.

Proceeds will be used to purchase needed equipment for the County of Hawaii Fire and Rescue Department.

This year, the Foundation will honor seven Hawaii County Fire Department personnel, recommended from within the department for their meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty:

Acting Fire Rescue Specialist Lui Sales, Fire Equipment Operator James Wilson, Fire Rescue Specialist Chad Chun Fat, Fire Equipment Operator Michael Akau, Fire Equipment Operator Don Teramoto, Water Safety Officer I Ryan McGuckin, and Water Safety Officer II Anton Finley.
