Jury finds man guilty in marijuana case

KEALAKEKUA — A jury found Byuong Soo Choi guilty of second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and promotion of drug paraphernalia following a full day of trial Wednesday.

Choi, 57, of Kailua-Kona, was found not guilty of the third charge, attempted first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug. Prosecutor’s had alleged during the three-day trial he had marijuana in his vehicle he was intending to sell.

Officers executed a search warrant on Choi, his vehicle and Kailua Village home in September 2013. Police said officers located 14 pounds of marijuana between his vehicle and home and two digital scales.

He will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 3 before 3rd Circuit Court Judge Ronald Ibarra.
