The Wellness Center grand opening planned
The Wellness Center, recently opened on Hualalai Road, includes professionals that offer a variety of health and healing modalities and collaborate to create a nurturing environment. Attendees of its grand opening may meet health practitioners, enjoy food, music, cooking demonstrations, presentations and raffle prizes.
The grand opening is from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday at 75-367 Hualalai Road.
Kona Dance and Performing Arts grand opening planned
Kona Dance and Performing Arts, a nonprofit arts organization and dance studio in Kealakekua, will host its grand opening and day of family fun Saturday. The studio is at 81-973 Halekii Street, across from The Korner Pocket in Kealakekua.
From 1 to 4 p.m. there will be free dance classes for keiki and adults, free performances by the studio’s students, face painting and crafts for keiki, giveaways and prizes. Food will be sold with a portion of the proceeds benefit ting the organization. Discounts on registration for the studio’s upcoming dance year will be available.
Kona Dance and Performing Arts opened in June with support from the community when a group of parents saw the need for dance opportunities in South Kona.

Korean War veterans meet
The Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 meets at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Kona Vet Center, 73-4876 Kamanu St. in the Kaloko Industrial area. The Kona Vet Center is on the second floor in Suite 207. There is an elevator.
Membership is open to any person who has seen honorable service in any of the Armed Forces of the United States, defined as Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard within Korea Sept. 3, 1945 to the present, or outside of Korea June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Free home gardener class at Kailua-Kona library
“Eating Wild” with Ed Fenzl, certified master gardener, will be presented from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Kailua-Kona Public Library.
The introductory course targets the home gardener and small farmer and covers 18 edible wild table or foraged food plants that are easy to grow. Attendees will explore native Hawaiian, indigenous and introduced plants to “spice-up” their palate and bring new perspectives of farm to table.
Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona this program is free.
Therapeutic riding program seeks volunteers
Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii will offer an orientation and training for new prospective volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Horseplay Equestrian Center in Honalo, mauka of Kona Coffee Villas.
Attendees should wear covered shoes and bring sunscreen. Refreshments will be provided.
Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii-Kona is a PATH International Premier Accredited Center offering horsemanship and riding opportunities to children and adults with special needs. The program operates at Horseplay Equestrian Center from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sundays.
Volunteers are needed to be horse leaders, sidewalkers, for grooming and barn chores, as well as administrative and fundraising activities.
