HONOLULU (AP) — Two more food service workers have been diagnosed with hepatitis A as the Hawaii outbreak continues to grow.
The state Department of Health on Wednesday confirmed 33 additional cases, bringing the total number of peopled sickened to 168. All of them are adults and 46 of them have required hospitalization.
One infected food service worker is an employee at a Waipahu Papa John’s restaurant. The other works at New Lin Fong bakery in Honolulu’s Chinatown.
Seven other establishments have had a food handling employee come down with the virus.
Health officials are still trying to identify the source of the outbreak. Health officials believe it’s likely a product widely distributed primarily on Oahu.
Hepatitis A is spread by contaminated food or water or close personal contact.
