Keauhou-Kona Yacht Club plans 40-year celebration
Keauhou-Kona Yacht Club will celebrate its 40th Anniversary Friday evening at the Kona by the Sea clubhouse, 75-6106 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona.
All current and former members and those interested in joining are invited. Reservations are required by calling 322-6672 by noon on Thursday. Cost is $25 per person for members and former members and $30 for guests.
Talk reveals maps, land records of sugar plantations
The sugar plantations dominated agricultural land use on Hawaii Island for more than 160 years, before that era ended in the 1990s. Many of the old maps, land records, and other documents of those times are unknown to current owners of former sugarcane lands, but may very well contain information of use or interest to such landowners. The Edmund Olson Trust Archive is a repository of documents from Hawaii’s sugar plantations.
From 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Lyman Museum, John Cross of the Olson Trust Archive will offer a peek at these relics of bygone days which are still in use today, and describe how the historic resources may be used.

Police offer active shooter training
The Hawaii Police Department will offer an active shooter presentation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the West Hawaii Civic Center Community Meeting Hale.
It is designed to help individuals increase their survivability should they encounter an active shooter or other type of active violent incident. Police will provide information on previous incidents of mass violence, recent events, best practices for those caught in such situations, law enforcement’s response, and how to work together as a community toward prevention. They will also provide additional resources for participants so they can continue their education on this topic, followed by a question-and answer segment.

Kamehameha Schools accepting applications
Applications for Kamehameha Schools’ K-12 program, and for the Kipona K-12 Scholarship program for the 2017-18 school year, are now available at www.ksbe.edu/admissions. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.
This year, there will be one application for both the Kamehameha Schools K-12 program and the Kipona Scholarship program, with the option to apply for either program, or to both simultaneously. The application process for both programs will be the same, including the assessment process.
Kipona is a need-based scholarship for eligible keiki who attend or are applying to a Kamehameha Schools-eligible private school.
Along with the application window and process changes, Kipona will also expand its admission points this year, giving parents more opportunities to apply for the scholarship at various points throughout their child’s academic journey. West Hawaii district residents’ primary admission points are grades 7 and 9.
Eligible applicants for kindergarten at the Kamehameha Schools campuses must be born between Aug, 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. Kipona kindergarten applicants must be born between Aug. 1, 2011, and Dec. 31, 2012.
Applications for grades 10, 11 and 12 for all campuses are accepted, but space is limited.
