All public libraries will be closed on Statehood Day Friday.

Keauhou-Kona Yacht Club plans 40-year celebration

Keauhou-Kona Yacht Club will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Friday at the Kona by the Sea clubhouse, 75-6106 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona.

All current and members and those interested in joining are invited. Reservations are required by calling 322-6672 by noon on Thursday.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with bring-your-own -beverage cocktails, followed at 6 p.m. with a program, and dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $25 per person for members and former members and $30 for guests, to be paid by cash or check on arrival. Music will be performed by Sons of Aloha.

Founded in 1976, Keauhou-Kona Yacht Club was, for most of its existence near the boat ramp at Keauhou Bay. The March 11, 2011 tsunami all but destroyed the building. The club now meets at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday at the Kona by the Sea clubhouse for cocktails and dinner.

Book sale coming up

The Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold its next book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona library. Proceeds help support the needs of the Kona libraries. Teachers will receive special discounts with their school ID.

Volunteers are welcome and book donations are accepted at the library. Volunteers are also needed during the week to assist in sorting the donations. To volunteer, call 322-0077.
