May Grover

May Hoomanawanui Grover, 93, of Pahoa died July 14, 2016, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 5, 1923, in Kainaliu, she was a former furniture factory worker for Johnson Furniture in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a housewife. She was also a member of the Pahoa Assembly of God.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 at Hakalau Mill for a service. Casual attire and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, William Grover of West Virginia, Gerald (Susan) Grover of Traverse City, Mich., Walter (Jean) Grover of Tucson, Ariz., Richard (Lisa) Grover of Honomu, David (Cindy) Grover of Holland, Mich.; daughters, Elizabeth Kirk, Susan Van Wyk, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister, Martha Kamai of Honolulu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ely Acierto

Ely Ramos Acierto, 93, of Keaau died Aug. 17, 2016, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Facility in Hilo. Born Sept. 21, 1922, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired cane truck driver for the former Puna Sugar Co. He was a member of the Keaau Heights Kumiai and St. Joseph C.C. in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Aug. 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, for a 10 a.m. prayer service. Casual attire; flowers are welcomed; burial at Homelani Memorial Park, Lehua Section.

He is survived by wife, Estrella Acierto of Keaau; daughters, Amalia (Elroy Rapoza) Acierto, Stella (Lynol Waipa) Acierto, both of Keaau; sons, Edwin (Jeanette) Acierto of Keaau, Aldrin Acierto of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rodney Acierto of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother, Ricardo Acierto of Honolulu; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Gloria Schmidt

Gloria Jean Schmidt, 70, of Hilo died July 9, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Ontario, Canada, she was a hairdresser and worked at the former Paradise Auction.

Friends may call at noon Aug. 27 at Puhi Bay in Keaukaha for a 1:30 p.m. service, followed by scattering of her ashes at sea.

She is survived by daughter, Coleen Pabra of Pahoa; caregiver, Hannah Carvalho of Hilo; brother, Brent Arthur Mournahan of Ooltewah, Tenn.; sister, Sonia Glenn of Granite Falls, Wash.; one granddaughter, nieces and nephews.

Mayson Kaneki-Naha

Mayson Asarias Kaneki-Naha, 7, of Waimea died Aug. 7, 2016, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Oct. 14, 2008, in Hilo, he was a second-grade student at Waimea Elementary School.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He is survived by mother, Napua Hussey-Naha of Waimea; father, Vincent Peter Jenkins Sr. of Waimea; brothers, Zacchaeus Kaneki-Naha, Kayden Kaneki-Naha and Vincent Jenkins Jr., all of Waimea; maternal grandparents, Norma (Eric) Randall of Hilo; paternal grandparents, Frank and Donna Jenkins of Waimea numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
