Genevieve August

Genevieve Nielsen August, 90, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and formerly of Holualoa died July 29, 2016, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Born July 22, 1926, in Plainfield, N.J., she was a nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital and head surgical nurse in the cardiac department, and a surgical nurse at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. She operated a macadamia nut farm in Holualoa, was instrumental in developing a community botanical garden in Kona, volunteered at the Kona Outdoor Circle thrift shop, served as a guide at the Hulihee Palace and read with students in local schools in Kona. She was a member of Immaculate Conception in Holualoa.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 30 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery for a service. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by stepson, Peter (Lynn) August of Hope Valley, R.I.; stepdaughters, Susan August of Novato, Calif., Janet August of Chico, Calif.; one grandchild, a niece and nephew.

Deasd Silva

Deasd Christian Kekoa Makauole Silva, 17, of Hilo died Aug. 4, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 24, 1998, in Hilo, he was a student at Hilo High School and a former custodian at Hilo Union Elementary School.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Sept. 1 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo for a 6 p.m. service. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 2 at the mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. with cremation to follow. Casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

He is survived by parents, Abrajean Silva of Hilo, Richard and Crissa Okamura of Mountain View, Ryan Pavao of Mountain View; hanai father, Dion Alvarez of Hilo; brothers, Jeffrey Cabanting-Rafael, Louis Pavao, both of Mountain View, Deatrayn Alvarez, Destin Alvarez, both of Hilo, Dearon Fujimoto of Ninole; sisters, Charissa Okamura-Rafael of Mountain View, Deabrajean Pavao of Hilo; hanai brother, Thomas Kahooilihala of Hilo; maternal grandmother, Debra Silva of Hilo; paternal grandfather, Howard Okamura Sr. of Honolulu; maternal great-grandparents, Milton and Laverne Morikami of Keaau; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and one nephew.

Manuel Elizares Jr.

Manuel “Horse” “Elgato” Elizares, Jr., 77, of Laupahoehoe died Aug. 15, 2016, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 4, 1939, in Pohakea, Paauilo, he was a retired truck driver from the former Big Island Meat, worked for Puu Waa Waa Ranch and Parker Ranch. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and music ministry and Plantation Boyz (music group).

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Sept. 3 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa for a 9:30 a.m. Mass. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Gail Elizares, son, Carson (Josie) Elizares; daughters, Roxanne (Andy) Levitt, Shawna (William) Jardine, Alison (Brian) Villasista, Sherry (Peter Pactol) Dias, Christine (Troy) Tabac, Rachael (Kirk Rapozo, Sr.) Segawa, Lolly (Lowen Moses, Sr.) Elizares, Shine (Eric) Carvalho, Cynthia Elizares; 24 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeff Lampreda

Jeff Henry Lampreda, 54, of Hilo died Aug. 19, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Jose, California, he was a volunteer with the Special Olympics.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by parents, Henry and Faye Lampreda of Roseville, Calif.; sister, Starlene (Steve) Fryslie of Lincoln, Calif.; hanai mother, Gwynn Sosa of Hilo; hanai brother, Dusty Cardines of Hilo.
