Toshio Maeda

Toshio Maeda, 88, of Hilo died July 28, 2016, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born July 19, 1928, in Haleiwa, Oahu, he retired as senior vice president at Suisan Co.. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of East Hawaii and OK Golf Club.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Sept. 3 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Casual attire is requested. No monetary offerings.

He is survived by wife, Margaret Maeda of Hilo; daughters, Carol (Michael) Lau of Honolulu, Lauren Maeda of Hilo; brother, Fumio Maeda of Pearl City, Oahu; sister, Jennifer Kawamata of Waialua, Oahu; two grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Herman Moke

Herman “Kili” Kahekili Moke, 61, of Hilo died Aug. 11, 2016, at Pohai Malama a Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Care Center- Hospice of Hilo.

Born in Hilo, he was a professional musician and vocalist with Naturally, The Moke Brothers and Men in Black, former employee for Robert’s Hawaii, Inc., Affordable Catering and Okazuya, treasurer for the Kuamoo Foundation and member, of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Sept. 3 at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. funeral service and an 11 a.m. Mass. Casual attire.

He is survived by son, Justin Moke of Hilo; daughters, Celestine (Wen) Richards-Moke of Keaau, Carlene Tejada of Pahoa; five grandchildren; brother, Herbert Moke of Hilo; sisters, Sandra (Bobby) Lee of Hilo, Theresa Becktel of Kailua-Kona; hanai brothers, Robert Keliihoomalu III of Aiea, Oahu, Charles (Marion) Moody of Linden, N.C.; hanai sisters, Theresa Correa of Kailua, Oahu, Thelma Kamekona of Kahului, Maui; one aunt; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, god-sisters and brothers.

Roy Shimizu

Roy Kaoru Shimizu, 94, of Keaau, died Aug. 16, 2016, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 23, 1922, in Mountain View, he was a retired crane operator and welder at the former Puna Sugar Co. and a member of the Puna Hongwanji Buddhist temple.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Sept. 3 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Toshie Shimizu of Keaau; sons, Rex (Lorraine) Shimizu of Valley Glen, Calif., and Keith (Leila) Shimizu of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Lynn (Calvin) Koshiyama of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Tommy Shimizu of Gardena, Calif., Iwao (Katherine) Shimizu of Kaneohe and Masato Shimizu of Honolulu; sisters, Harue (Daniel) Chang of Honolulu and Edith Booth of New Jersey; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Destiny Alvarez-Torres

Destiny Kuuipo Leilani Alvarez-Torres, 14, of Kailua-Kona died July 20, 2016, at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. Born May 3, 2002, in Kealakekua, she was a student at Kealakehe Intermediate School.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Sept. 3 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kailua-Kona for a 10 a.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by mother, Amber (Kalani) Alvarez-Torres of Kailua-Kona; father, Brendan Ho of Maui; brothers, Kalani Alvarez Jr., of Kailua-Kona, Keaka Ho, Elijah Ho, and Noah Ho, all of Maui; sisters, Sasha Alvarez-Torres and Kayla Lorenzo- Alvarez of Kailua-Kona, Makyla Ho, Malia Ho and Te’a Ho, all of Maui; maternal grandfather, Jeffrey Torres of Kailua-Kona; maternal grandparents, Vera and Ernest Alvarez of Ocean View; paternal grandmother, Dale Ho of Maui; hanai maternal grandparents, Vivian and Jerry Bonicelli of Kailua-Kona; one nephew; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

James Mueting

James Anthony Mueting, 52 of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 19, 2016. Born Oct. 31, 1963, in Dayton, Ohio, he was a carpenter, fisherman and boat captain of the Lectro West.

A celebration of life will be held from 3-6 p.m. Sept. 4 on the back lawn (by the salt pool) at the Aston Kona By the Sea, 75-6106 Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Caner Society.

He is survived by wife, Bobbie Mueting; stepchildren, Jerra Crossland, Cody Turner and Dylan Turner; five grandchildren; brothers, Michael Mueting and Alan Mueting; sisters, Marry Hanna, Karin Hedrick, and Joanne Hall; numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Yamaguchi

Betty Hanako Yamaguchi, 92, of Hilo died Aug. 4, 2016, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 17, 1924, in Hilo, she was a retired accountant from the former Realty Investment Co. and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Wainaku Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts.

She is survived by husband, Harold Yamaguchi of Hilo; brother, Richard (Patsy) Fujii of Honolulu; sister, Aiko Yamamoto of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
